Bitter, Mark?

Why is it considered bitter to get pissed off at how these big consolidators are running these stations? Most of us came up in radio when the owners took serious the part about serving the public. The only thing they are serving now is the shareholders, and the debt they have incurred in purchasing their kingdoms.

I totally get where Mark is coming from. Seeing these clowns trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and doing it over and over again. When if they would only listen to the people in charge of running it, they would be so much more successful.

That is the problem: those folks were canned in the name of cost savings.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in them being more successful if they had kept the people who made it that way but were fired so the station could be more successful?

Having worked for Cumulus as a MM it's all about BCF. People cost money. We have allot of debt. We have no buget for "people". Debt must be serviced.

Can't debt be serviced more by having a quality product and selling it for the rate that it deserves?

Quality cost money and that option isn't there.

Agreed. Hasn't been the same since John Sebastian took it over. He's long since gone, but still...it's a struggle to recover.

The whole "the competition is call themselves the Bull we'll call ourselves The Bear" was the beginning of the end and pretty damn stupid. The name did nothing but cause confusion and it wasn't like the "K93" brand was damaged, it just didn't have Ralph Hacker or Kentucky Central providing the finances needed to fight off competition on an equal signal.

As far as John Sebastian it was the same scenario, he got his one book that spiked a demo, proclaimed success and moved on.

Yeah the whole name change was stupid. In this town we love animal names for radio. Cat, Bull, Bear, Froggy (Frankfort), Fox (Berea), Coyote (Irvine) ;)

It's probably not fair to "out" people on these boards, but as one of thousands who has had their lives wrecked by Cumulus, I would caution anyone who wants to label someone as "bitter." Unless you've experienced the corporate bullying first-hand, you can't imagine the" PTSD" former employees have experienced.

Mark outed himself weeks ago. But my bad for acknowledging that admission.

FWIW, I don't remember typing a name.

But, it's okay.

Clearly someone is NOT looking The latest Arb, WLXX took a huge leap in the ratings, however the company switched to the "Nash" brand despite that jump.

A 0.9 increase 12 plus isn't a huge leap in ratings unless the demos increase dramatically which I doubt. Besides it's a far cry from when the 12 plus numbers were in the mid to upper teens and demos were even more impressive.

Agree with everything bad that's been said here about 92.9 the last few years. But, I thought they had begun to sound a lot better 4-6 months ago. Nothing for the Bull to lose sleep over yet, but sounding better than they have in 5 years. Haven't checked them out lately, so I can't comment on the Nash effect. But the slight uptick in ratings and the corresponding drop by the Bull kind of confirms what my ears hear.

When you look at the just 2.5 share they had had a couple of years ago following the sign on of "Hank FM" it's a significant climb , it's been a slow build too.

As mentioned in this thread Cumulus has corkscrewed 92.9 so far into the ground that a five share would seem like an improvement. Go to David Gleason's site and do the research. 92.9 had double digit ratings 12 plus for years! Even the beautiful music format had those numbers and when those numbers moved on to older demos the country format was born.

Clear Channel is the devil but Cumulus has destroyed so much more that it is perversely entertaining and is a special talent. Those responsible should really stand up and take a bow.
