Looks like their calls are going to be KCLX. Although there isn't a stream available, their online player says "KCLX" on the title bar.
I've often wondered how is it that a station chooses its call letters.
Specifically, why those above others? Mathematically speaking there are 26^3 = 17,576 choices. (3 letters after the 1st K.) What makes 1 set better than another among the unclaimed?
There's a KBLX in the Bay Area at 102.9FM. It plays soft R&B. I've noticed that from town to town the FM dial is laid out in a predictable form, e.g., classical and jazz towards the low 90's, classic rock in the upper 90's, hip hop in the 100's. (Does that sound like a weather forecast?)
I've often wondered if there's something predictable with call letters, some secret code worth knowing about. Why wouldn't KBLX of one market be like KCLX in another? (Or KDLX, for someone wondering what DeLuXe thing to have for lunch?)
As I see KCLX, I'm trying to make sense of it. If you saw my reply in the other thread, I see several things, e.g.,
1. KCL + X, meaning we put the X in KCL=Potassium Chloride of medicine,
or our music puts in the X and cures you?
2. KC + LX, as in KC's Licks,
whether KC is he of the Sunshine Band
or Casey Kasem
3. Something to say all at once. If there's K-Hits elsewhere, then KCLX is either
K Clocks or K-Clicks.
Is it just random, pick a set of letters?
Or can it be done strategically, especially for marketing/promotions purposes?
