93.3 gone?

@carolinaradio.... I don't think CC is deliberately older leaning or more "rock leaning" than CBS stations. Look at the markets. Cleveland, Minneapolis, Seattle... "rock towns". I would include Pittsburgh but 3WS is an abomination of what it once was. Certainly not an "oldies" station by any stretch or definition.
For KJR to minimize it's heritage, ie call letters, is stupid. WMJI did that years ago and failed. Brought them back a few years ago and rightly so. And with PPM call letters really have no impact... so why bother taking KJR's away?
Regarding the format, rating, etc.... In WMJI's case, having worked there for six years 94-00, regarding it's juice in the market, it's all... repeat ALL... due to longtime morning host John Lanigan and Jimmy Malone. Now, at one time WMJI's dayparts were as solid as AM drive. Sometimes stronger. But AM drive permeates throughout the day. In the last five years or so WMJI has waned in PM drive to being out of the Top 10 P25-54. Middays barely Top 5. But, Lanigan is still King of Cleveland radio. Lanigan in the market since 1970 (WGAR) when he took over for Imus who went to WNBC. Joined WMJI 1985 after a brief stint in Tampa. Lanigan was teamed with Malone about '89 along with newsman John Webster. Webster exited about '99/00. Five Marconi's and R&R Large Market Station/Personality award and never below #2 P25-54 in AM drive since 1998.... Lanigan is Cleveland's AM king. Word is WMJI (Lanigan) covers the cluster's expense nut in just six months. Impressive. Lanigan due to retire soon. He's 68. Maybe 2012. Malone and Co (newsman Chip Kullick) most lilkely stay on and the station will be ok... for the short term.
WMJI programmed from 89-96 by former WMMS OM/PD John Gorman. Then WMJI night talent, and former WMMS staffer, Denny Sanders programmed WMJI from 96-2001. Sanders in the Rock Hall.

Yeah, I agree, those stations are fitting to the markets they're in. I guess what I'm noticing is there isn't as much 'new wave'/disco material as I tend to hear on the CBS classic hits stations that I've listened to the most (WOCL/Orlando and WRBQ/Tampa).
WOCL can push the envelope at times. These stations get more in to the Prince/Madonna/etc. 80s than the Clear Channel stations tend to.

Most here know I like the real oldies. Despite being 27, I grew up on Oldies B97. I know real oldies are dead except for the weak 1270 WUCO has the mostly good True Oldies.
This 93.3 was terrible when I sampled it last night. All the same worn out 70s songs that are already on 103.9, 101.7, like 'China Grove'. Some QFM and Brew rock thrown in too. Their playlist is 538 songs according to their website which is weak.
For "classic hits", I'll use WNKO. The playlist seems bigger and the talent (seems VT anyway) seem better. C'mon Clear Channel! People who enjoy 50s/60s aint dead. Some like me were raised on them, the rest will retire and have money to spend on the advertiser's place of biz/service.

They are always Mentioning Licking County which is a big turn off for me. I am not accustomed to hearing weather for Newark, New Albany and Pataskala instead of Columbus. They are also talking about Licking County events which I could not care less for.chad43358 said:
Yes, they have been serving this area for years, but as someone from the Northwest side who can pick the station up clear as a bell, it is really hard to listen beyond the music.

There are plenty of other stations that play the same music if you don't like their approach. They moved their city of license, but WNKO still is a Licking County station at heart. It's where their studios are, it's where their advertising is, etc. I think they've done an awful job trying to become a Columbus station, but it's fine with me since they're a good voice for this area (I live near Buckeye Lake).
Not to worry, I guess. The new September PPM shows 93.3 up again, to 5.4 6+ AQH share. That's only .5 below WSNY, which IIRC is the closest they've ever been outside the Christmas season.
That's the least of Sunny's worries if they don't do something drastic with the music they play. They wait soooo long to do anything and with the current market fluctuations, they will be playing catch-up for some time.
Oldies WILL surpass them. They need to get on the stick and get some music adjustments and some talent that will make a difference. It's sad to see this happen, but this is just the beginning of a harsh downward move if they procrastinate.
