93.3 gone?

Its been said here that 93.3 now features programming from Clear Channel's "Premium Choice" "Cool Oldies" format. As was
posted here a while back, WCHI 1350 and Cool Oldies WCHO 1250 Washington CH are also "Premium Choice" "Cool Oldies" formatted radio stations. Those two AMers can also be heard here in Columbus, but with much weaker signals.
These three stations can be heard playing the exact same songs, in the same rotation and usually within a few minutes of each other. What is the purpose of "Premium Choice" and how dose it work? Is this a satellited delivered format? Just curious. ???

Premium Choice is a log, not a satellite format. A log with music and voice tracks is downloaded by the station and merged with the local traffic log. You'll hear the same songs and jock talk, but not exactly at the same time. WDSJ in the Dayton market runs Premium Choice 24/7; WCHO runs about a song behind because of TOH news. I believe 93.3 runs premium choice only on overnight and weekends, though it may still be the same music log at other times.

So basically it's pre-programmed music and jock liners and traffic updates that someone at the station loads into the station's system and lets it fly, correct? ???

Yes, 93.3 does seem to use the PC music log all day long, with minor deviations, along with local 5:30am - midnight weekday air talent. Possible exception: I'm not sure whether Amy Donovan is actually in Columbus, but if not she is apparently voicetracking specifically for this market.

I really like Amy as a LOCAL personality but find her show through PC pretty much unlistenable...that may not be a real word but I think we all know we are talkers and not writers, right? :-\

"Unlistenable" is very much a real word, and one quite familiar to anyone who has checked out Columbus commercial radio lately.

Why?  Are you talking about the audio quality of the webstream?  Seems OK to me. Or does PC refer to Premium Choice? Either way, not sure what you're getting at...

The breaks are so generic...too me, there is no connection with her. The overnight guy on 93.3 is actually entertaining...not sure if it is all served through Premium Choice or not.

Agreed, the overnight night guy Action Jackson is entertaining. I believe (not positive) that he originates from WMJI in Cleveland, and that it's through Premium Choice.

As Bill Harmon pointed out, Amy is local to Columbus and doesn't do any Premium Choice work (though she certainly could, in my opinion). Andy Clark is always live, and on occasion, Mike Eiland and Kevin Kirschner will do some or all of their weekend shifts live. Other than that, the station is always voice-tracked.

Don Jackson (from Cleveland) and Paul Christy (from Houston) are Premium Choice talent.

Thanks for the rundown. Somehow I've never heard Christy,. although I know who he is.

Houston's Paul Christy is another legendary jock from the Bill Drake era of top 40 radio; he became a legend at Drake's KFRC/SF, and later worked here in LA in the late 1970s at KFI when it was a top 40 station; he was replaced in 1980 by another AM radio legend, former WKBW/Buffalo icon Jackson Armstrong.

FWIW, CC 'blew up' Classic Hits Magic 107.3/Jacksonville several weeks ago, and flipped it to 'Adult Hits', and the new website is http://www.1073jack.com.

That flip took place much to the disgust and consternation of the locals, I might add.

The 'problem' with many Classic Hits/Oldies' stations is decreasing the amount of pre-Beatlemania music and adding more 80s product in order to better sell the product to the 25-54 and 35-54 demos; KRTH has done just that under PD Jhani Kaye and a killer airstaff which includes Gary Bryan, 'Shotgun' Tom Kelly' and a legendary relief jock who also has an outstanding 5-hour long 1970s show which would sound great on WOCD; his name is Charlie Tuna, who's also live on the air on Sat. & Sun. from 9AM/2PM (PDT).

If Amy Donovan is voiced in from another market, they must give her a lot of local. Just heard her today want to hug all of Hilliard if she could. Assuming a reference to a car accident yesterday that took a Hilliard teenager's life. :(

Amy is live and local, as are Kevin and Andy and Heather and Mike Eiland. They may track some hours on some days but they are in the building.

Looked back and saw earlier posting she was local to Cbus. Thanks Chuck!
