93.7 new morning show

Perhaps we're all looking at this the wrong way. With the same music programmer and same morning show that brought about such wonderful results that a 34 year-heritage station crashed and burned to the point of flipping, why wouldn't repeating that formula bring immediate market success?

I'm sure we're all just looking at this all wrong. :)

I forget who the KLOL music director was at the time of the flip.

music director? are you kiddin? all a music director does at cc houston is schedule stuff as instructed.

by the way klol was designated for failure.

I love how people try ot blame W&J for the "demise" of Rock 101.

Folks, I hate to tell you, it wsa dead before they got there. I moved away from Houston back in the mid 90's. When I cam back in 2001, I couldn't wait to hear S&P again in the morning, even though I had become a fan of the W&J in Lake Charles.

First all, Grego and Pruett was horrible. The music sucked someting serious, and the rest of the line up sounded old and tired. The only good thing that happened to 101 was when W&J came in and replaced that abortion of a morning show.

If I'm not mistaken, they actually had better ratings than Dean and Rog did when 101 flipped. Can anyone confirm this?

Whew! That was bad wasn't it... Once Mark Stevens was out it was over. Doing Uncle Waldo with some new guy seemed like sacrilege at the time. Although I do have fond memories of Grego's Outlaw Radio. At least the threat of "dangerous" radio was an aspect I dug at the time. Any of those intentions now are homogenized to the point of sterility. Another glimmer of something original tossed into the void...

Listened to W&J this morning... Only took 20min to hear something about illegal aliens...

W&J suck so bad those fool sound like straight garbage on the radio now it is a matter of time before the arrow is sold I give the station 6 to 8 months when it is sold I bet the new the format will be either classical or jazz. W&J should have stayed on AM if not maybe satlite radio or nowhere damn they are garbage

No way W&J would EVER appear on Sat radio. Howard Stern approves all DJ talent the likes of W&J, at least for now. After Karmazin loses complete control, that will probably change. However, at the moment Stern approves all personalities coming onto Sirius/XM and W&J would not not get a sniff. Stern has some fairly strict guidelines as to talent & quality and W&J are not up to that standard. Like or hate Stern, the guy is a radio expert and knows how to spot shock jock talent better than anyone. Stern looks for originality with the ability to hold an audience beyond consecutive quarter hours.

No way CC sells the Arrow. Format change down road: possibly, but not to classical or jazz. Never has worked in Houston. Unfortunately for the Arrow, the station will fade into radio mediocrity with the loss of Dean & Rog. W&J, IMHO, don't have the talent to hold the ratings on FM. If I'm not mistaken, they already failed once on 101 following the retirement of S&P. From what I understand you can't judge their success by the sydication. Supposedly there was a backroom deal between CC Houston execs and others that FORCED syndication in a host of markets. Everyone involved supposedly received nice kickbacks. W&J's sydie "success" was not a result of their true deman. S&P was the last real AM talent this market had before D&R and D&R are not nearly as good, original or creative as S&P. It's a sad time at 93.7 and all for all the good folks who worked there or still work there.

W&J were only a small fraction on the CONTINUING decline of KLOL, but they didn't help keep it a float either. Their ratings have been average at best. What have they ever done for a Houston Radio Station to make it better?! They didn't save KLOL. KIOL was a bigger disaster (and not just because 97.5 & 103.7's signals sucked). KPRC?! W&J is a cheap alternative, with Houston name recognition. It's cheaper than local talent and cheaper than "Bob & Tom". That's why they went in that direction.

Like everything else, there are going to be people who love W&J, and people who don't. My point is that CC went for the cheaper, mediocre product over something creative, new, local, and original. Which to me, is very disappointing, but it is a growing trend. I'm actually shocked after Paul Christy left Cox, that they would shell out the cake to get Dean & Rog, along with Suzi Hanks.

Suzi Hanks re-surfaced at K-Hits this week with Scott Sparks and is listed as the Co-Host on their website. Is D&R still coming over in June?

I know one thing, and maybe I am too old school, but I sure like the local flavor. Tried about 10 mins of the W&J thing this morning and was depressed all day. Leaving work early right now to get a double margaritas  :p

Dean & Rog will be there in June. Suzi will join them. Scott Sparks moves to Afternoon Drive.
