93-9 Kiss FM 12-26

I have to ask, is there any other AC stations in Raleigh/Durham?

Yes, Mix 101.5 WRAL has been the dominant AC (mostly) over the past, oh, 30 years or so. They always seem to go up when they lean hot, down when they lean soft. I have no idea why they keep going back to mainstream AC. But this move by CC will probably put WRAL squarely in the mianstream AC leaning soft category. No use trying to knock on G105 and Kiss's doors.

I seriously doubt CC's phones are jammed. 100.7 has basically gone back to oldies. In fact, listening to them recently last week, they sound like they did early on in the WTRG days when they had that scalloped triangle logo, lots of attitude "music whose time has come again", none of that oldies fun fun happy fun fun baloney. WRSN was a one note johnny - going to Christmas music eary to get a Winter and Spring jump on WRAL. I think CC is doing a better job (crappy, up from uber crappy) in covering the demographic spread with this change. The big benefit for triangle listeners will be if G105 returns to its alternative lean from the 90's.

Well, what a turn of events! Just a few days ago on 100.7 the river's internet stream I heard promos for Sunny's Xmas music and just last night this happens! The suns out and Kiss is in! WKSL are the new calls. The first song is Prince's "Kiss" and the second song is C&C Music Factory's "Everybody Dance Now" Both good songs to kick off the Rhythmic AC Format in the Triangle. But, you gotta feel bad for the Soft AC folks. I have to ask, is there any other AC stations in Raleigh/Durham? If not, then a WJJZ (Smooth Jazz) situation could happen. Where the fans FLOOD the boards with angry messages. I bet CC/Raleighs phones are ringin' off the hook right about not. We'll see how this does against the other stations. This is a couple of days after another AC flip happened in CC/Atlanta. The AC Station down there "94.9 Lite FM" flipped to Country. But just a couple of days later it reappeared on 96.9, formerly a Spanish station with the Viva brand. Don't be suprised if another company flips one of their stations to the AC format to cater to the listeners. That is, unless the ratings were terrible for "Sunny", then AC is outta the picture. Okay, the third song is "Lets get it Started" by the Black Eyed Peas, another great Rhythmic AC format starter.

AC listeners will be split up between HAC WRAL and oldies/classic hits Y102.

100.7 is not oldies. It's classic rock/classic hits. "Oldies" is 60s/70s pop.

Well, so far, its actually very good. And, if anybody doesn't listen to another Rhythmic AC station, Rhythmic AC stations usually have bumpers saying what the station "is all about" (Movin' included). And, we can pretty much rule out a CHR station for this with Prince "Kiss" and "Turn the beat Around" in the first 8 song list for KISS fm. Song #9 "SexyBack" Justin Timberlake F. Timbaland. Oh, and KISS CHR/Top 40 stations mess with the overall sound of the Songs on the playlist. So, songs on KISS CHR/Top 40's move faster, different tone, etc. So, this will NOT be a CHR station. And, the Logo looks almost similar to Movin' 93.9 in LA, which is unlike the other Movin' stations with green circles.

Oldies is pretty much dead. Classic hits is both the new oldies and the new classic rock.

Somebody needs to tell Tom Collins that at Majic 94.1

100.7 the River (WRVA) is called Classic Rock on The Stream Center. And I haven't heard any songs that would fit a classic hits station (which is what recent Oldies-type stations [not stations that have been around for a long period of time] have been called. CBS Radio's stations that were at one time being called oldies were changed to Classic Hits, This was after the CBS-FM incident.) AT ALL on WRVA, its just about fully classic rock. And when I said is there any AC stations, I meant Soft AC (which was Sunny's format), not hot AC, which Sunny didn't have. And, the phones could be flooded because of hard-core listeners (trust me, there are, not that I'm one) wondering what the hell is going on and why Sunny is out and KISS is in. Back on topic, so far no commercials. Whoopi will be morning drive host beginning 1/3/07, according to the format's intro. Would that mean that the earliest (local-based) Jocks and commercials would be on 'KSL is 1/3? There should be Jocks because the flagship for the Movin' format, in Seattle, now has jocks. So Rhythmic AC stations can have Jocks, it just takes a while. And, a PD hasn't been named, which means that they could be still searching for one. By the way, the top of the hour legal promo is the same as the opening to the station at Noon ET/11 AM CT

Hmm... wonder what the L in WKSL stands for? The "KS" obviously stands for "Kiss," but what about the L?

Another interesting tidbit: The new callsign is one letter off from that of the old 98.7 Kiss-FM in Greensboro (98.7 was WKSI in its Kiss days)...

not sure. but i noticed that when it comes time for the legal id. they say " This, is WKSL - BURLINGTON"...nothing about Cary. interesting. i guess they gave up on moving to the Apex tower ?

anyways, do you realize it's been about 14 years since we had a "Kiss" around ? this is great!

;D I don't remember a "Kiss" since I got divorced in 1977..Thank the Lord!

Yes, 98.7 was Kiss-FM until the early- to mid-90s; then they started the revolving-door format thing. 93.9 Kiss-FM is still based in Burlington, but will eventually move to Cary; however, there is another Kiss in Clemmons (the former WFMX), but 105.7 is a much tamer Kiss...

Does anyone know if either of these stations will pick up the Xmas music next year? I know Mix was playing all Christmas during the 7-to-midnight time slot...

Good one... reminds me of the slogan some irate WZZU fans came up with when 93.9 first became Sunny 10 years ago:

We
Really
Suck
Now

www.sunny939.com is the site

and something odd is going on. i know that online they sometimes use a heavy delay. but this is odd, delilah is going strong with christmas music, and yet 93.9 FM on the radio itself is playing an entire different set of christmas tunes. if they are the same, then the delay must be at least 45 mins off. because i have BOTH going.

someone...explain, as we approach crunch time

I've noticed the same thing, not only with playing a radio and the stream but also with playing the stream on two computers at the same time...

"Very Smart"? Clear Channel Raleigh? This the first time those two thoughts have been linked since they bought the stations. They now have three format changes since Labor Day and the whole ad community thinks they are on crack.

They obviously were on crack or something when they named the new 106.1 "Rooster"...
