94.5 testing on their new stick

got a glimpse of their press kit...and new calls are WHPY.
yes..."Hippie 94.5".

Is this the "Bellevue" station? (Lobelville heading east?). If they do psychedelic music and semi-alt classic rock, it'll be fine. CR --- no more haircuts if debuts as Hippie. If they give it a mainstream sound with no heart, soul or guts it'll tank as often as 106.7. Speaking of which....

that's the one...testing Thursday night until about 10...
surprised at the signal on Music Row...pretty strong for 5k from west of Bellevue.

You've GOT to be kidding me!? Not only will it most likely screw up WGSQ 94.7 for me, which I've come to accept, but NOT for that format. Gross. I just gave it a preview. How much classic rock can this market handle!? 96, 97, 1059 (some 929) all play the same music!

94.5's on the wrong side of town for spanish radio, but come on, NO ONE is going to give us a good Hot AC station!? (granted that signal wouldn't be the best to use). I guess I'll keep streaming from Colorado, or ANY other market! And seriously, do NOT bring up V102 - that does not count, as no offices can pick up the signal in Davidson County. I think 94.5 could support a CLASSIC country format similar to WANT. I'm 24 and I listen. I'm not alone in that. Some get tired of hearing "Storm Warning" on 98 all day =) I digress...

Since Way is off of 94.5, any idea if/when they'll be on 105.1? Way is missing 100,000+ people in NE Davidson County and all of Sumner County where they have NO signal at all after going to 5kW. I would imagine it'll have an uphill signal battle against Solid Gospel 105.

It sounds like they launched at 3.

I was listening to the dead carrier (it's an engineering thing...) on my way home from, ironically enough, Bellevue, when they ran an ID & into the music. There seems to be at least one warm body on site as they gave a more-or-less accurate weather report around 3:30.

Unfortunately, the signal is pretty good up here in Pleasant View. I managed to land Clear 94 (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) and Mix 94.5 (Lexington, Ky.) yesterday -- I suppose I'll never hear those stations again...

Tibbs: yes, they launched with "Revolution" -- although they didn't play the whole thing!, covered it up with about a minute to go with whatever the next tune was.

It's nice to have a geekfest again in Nashville. Not to make a sad note of things, but it is weird that Spider would be on and they are having a tribute to David Hall this afternoon on Lightning 100. Bittersweet for sure.

Any truth that the station was a 100K..but when moved to Bellvue went to 3K ??seems like at lot of power to give up..especially sice it won't cover much of Nashville..

they were running 22kw before the move in...running 5kw now, but no height to speak of

Ok, I listened to the actual 94.5 on the way home instead of the Chattanooga link from earlier today. I'll admit, I was too harsh earlier when my Hot AC dreams were crushed, haha. I will say, it at least had good energy and DJ. Good marketing. The traffic report sound effect has to be changed. I'm 24 and looked everywhere for the sirens - I know the "baby boomers" would freak.

I pulled it in just fine from Berry Hill to Old Hickory. At my house it seems to have a slightly worse signal than 93.7 to the West and 94.7 to the East, but I have a hill to my West and clear shot over the lake to my East so not a completely accurate measurement. Seems to have a stronger Davidson County signal than 102.5 from what I can tell from just an hour or two. I'm interested in seeing how far it reaches toward Gallatin.

They were a full Class C2, equivalent to 50,000 watts at 150m. (492') They went to a full Class A, equivalent to 6,000 watts at 100m.

Coverage radius in the protected contour went from 51km (about 30 miles) to 28km. (about 17 miles) On the other hand, there are a LOT more people within 28km of Bellevue than within 51km of Lobelville! (I think most broadcasters would be delighted to trade WKDF for a 250-watt translator on the Empire State Building...)

At least in theory this also means WNKX's AM station on 1570 in Centerville is no more, that it's now operating from Lobelville.

Okay, this is too good to be true. A station playing MY generation's music, with a COL of Bellevue? I better enjoy this while it lasts! 8)

I was DX-ing earlier this week and did not pick up this station, so it must have come on since I last DX-ed! 8)

I just heard two songs on 94.5 that probably haven't been played in Nashville since the 70s: Spiders & Snakes and Alone Again Naturally.

At times, the playlist reminds me of WTIX FM in New Orleans.

Let's see if 94.5 holds true to their first two days' programming. 105.9 and 97.1 played deep cuts when they first changed to classic rock format. Within a few weeks the same 300 familiar, recognizable, overplayed songs became predictable norm.

I heard them promote legendary WLAC dj Spider Harrison as their midday guy.

I hope the wide playlist continues but as Courier37027 points out, probably not. Heard Rikki Don't Lose That Number followed by Indian Lake followed by Whatever Gets You Thru The Night.
