94.7 to flip to "Fresh 94.7" this Thursday

I just read from another radio site that CBS is indeed changing format for The Wave. Coming Thursday, CBS will flip The Wave to "Fresh 94.7", which is currently in use in NYC, Chicago, and DC. Thoughts and comments?

Interesting. As a listener of the wave for a long time before I moved to Fresno, I will have to listen as I drive into LA Thursday on my way to my family's place for Easter.

"Fresh" is not a format... it's just a name that CBS managed to register nationally. Each "Fresh" is different, just as Clear Channel has "Kiss" stations that are CHUrban and ones that are pop Top 40. It's so hard to find a name that does not infringe on someone's mark used in remote Maine or Montana that companies find a few that they can use with no issues over and over.

While they might decide to use the Fresh name in LA if they think The Wave has no equity or negative baggage, they have already changed format several months ago.

This is a pathetic lie! Why would CBS simply switch the brand name for something that was successful for 20+ years, to something that has FAILED in every single market it's in? Plus, why would announce what day they would do it, and why Thursday? By the way, I hear JACK FM is changing it's name to JOHN FM next Tuesday... ???

Again, "Fresh" is a name. Not a format.

Thursday was the first day of ratings periods (may still be where they begin measuring in PPM...David?).

Formats have often flipped on Thursdays, big announcements have often been made on Thursdays.

But this Thursday is April Fool's Day.

Could be true about Fresh. We won't know till Friday.

And according to the ArbyTron site (http://www.arbitron.com/radio_stations/)
the April 2010 PPM period is April 1-April 28.

March started March 4 (THU) and May starts April 29 (THU).

Mr. Hagerty is a winner, and he wasn't even the ninth caller! ;)

I recall DE posting some months back that all PPM periods are four weeks
(28 days), so it appears they all begin on Thousand Dollar Thursdays.

But if you do that on those key Thursdays, do you risk being listed
"below the meter"? ;D

Source?

I have good teeth so I don't spend much time at the dentist ;D, but I was in a store the other day and was surprised at how The Wave has morphed into a station more like 92.3. And I guess they were up in the last book with the change, so it wouldn't surprise me if they repurposed.

Hey Guys:

Well if "The Wave" was up in the last book whay would they change?

What were the last ratings like anyway? Isn't Fresh failing in NYC, Chicago and DC anyway. They should just leave it alone!!

Like Radioresearcher said who is the source of the story?

T.J.

I think flipping on let's say a Thursday or a Friday is a good thing, it allows the station to do some street team advertising over the weekend at weekend events so people know the station's on the air.

I think the "Fresh" moniker will be to draw new audiences to the station, especially the much needed younger audiences. I'm sure "Fresh" is more appealing than the "Wave" moniker
"The Wave" is known as smooth jazz, there has to be a message that the playlist has changed and they aren't just playing smooth jazz anymore

The highest listening day in PPM is Monday; Thursday was an artificial thing with the diary.

AC stations depend on at work listening to a huge extent; the weekend is where they tend to underperform. They certainly don't seem to gain any benefit from street hits or event marketing; the prime vehicle is TV followed by things like direct mail or the electronic equivalents and outdoor.

It was only up in 55+, and actually down and trending lower in the salable demos.

DOwn in 25-54, but they are transitioning so I would guess that the final Wave sound is evolving and not there yet.

Fresh is just a name. Each station is different. And Fresh in NY last year billed within less than $2 million of CBS-FM. So if Fresh in NY is failing, then so is CBS FM.

The only issue might be that research has come back showing that the Wave name has such an embedded meaning that the station can not trransition to some form of AC while using it... but of course, they are not going to share their proprietary research with us!

I would just like a station or two to stunt a "format" switch this Thursday like when KROQ went "Pirate Radio" or to Spanish.
That's was fun radio.
Something the corporate bean counters appear to have no comedic soul for.

Non-jolly fun killers.
