94.7 Updates

Country it is, I say country it is...

That's what I'm hoping for. If so, they'll have to bring in one amazing staff and a great PD. My vote for PD would be either Scott Mahalick who was PD at KBWF in SF and currently programming KUPL in Portland PD. The other would be Tim Roberts of WYCD in Detroit. Both of them are no doubt the best in country radio.

Scott and Todd are playing down modern rock right now. They just talked about how it was tried twice and didn't work, and how that "doesn't bode well". Don't know if that's a hint...

Or if they're just messing with people, and that really is the format. There's really no way to tell until the station is officially launched.

Bottom line, the people up in Cumulus' NY office are likely having a ball reading these boards (and the PLJ and Scott & Todd Facebook pages) and toying with people. Grab your morning coffee, log on and be entertained all day long! It's actually pretty funny.

Given the ongoing chatter about what should program the 94.7 frequency, enough with the discussion with country. It's not going to happen, like ever. Ever? Ever!

You're just a regular Taylor Swift, aren't you? :D

Taylor Swift stopped being Country years ago.

I still think some kind of rock format is heading to the new WRXP. I'm no expert, but I can't imagine country being successful in America's largest radio market. Then again, alternative rock hasn't been that strong of a performer either, although I think that the former WRXP (101.9) was never really given a fair chance (it only lasted for a few months).

We can speculate all we want, but the bottom line is that Cumulus holds the cards here with 94.7 and its eventual new format. We'll just have to wait and see what develops.

Glad we could provide entertainment! I remember your name being tossed around when CBS-FM returned to classic hits as being involved with engineering there. What great processing they had! Glad the new Cumulus station is in good hands. Too bad CBS-FM is not!

FWIW, Todd made a reference to "'thundering' along the eastern seaboard" or something to that effect, leading Scott to comment that he almost missed the veiled reference.

Not for long anymore...

If it is not new rock alternative, like RXP 2.0, then I am out. They could have had both men and women listening with today's alternative. They can stick todays feminized country format.

btw - I guess Scott and Todd had not looked at the rating for RXP 2.0. That station was being sold regardless of what format was in place or how well it was doing.

Re: 94.7 ROCK FM

If they were just teasing us RXP alternative fans by using those calls for their country format then I will never listen to any Cumulus station no matter what format they put on it.

I can't stop reading this board and the funniest part is, I can barely get the signal (I'm in western suffolk on Long Island.) As much as I would like to see modern rock appear on 94.7, what I wish more is that it could return to a strong NYC signal. I do get 95.5....

Hey... I am in Atlanta and I can't stop reading this board. It is as good as a mystery novel.

Forget that. To much heritage to do that.

The vast part of the WPLJ "heritage" is as a Rock station. I understand the concern over the billing, but if the modern rock presentation were done right it wouldn't affect one thing. Alot of females like modern rock, so why would it be a stretch to add a few more alternative tunes to the playlist and move ahead?
