94 WIP "huge" announcement Monday 2/6/2012 ?

so is 97.5 flipping again or are you just listening to the voices in your head ?

I'm not certain, but the way the DJs have spoken really leads you to think it. I do like the station, but... i'm almost sure it's been hinted, or at least they're thinking about it.

Also, a station can certainly be satisfied being the No. 2 station.

97.5 is a weaker class B competing against a very strong Class B, usually the station with a better signal wins, but in this case, WIP has more money, more of a name and a better signal.

(I feel like i'm giving myself a bad name here, I'm here to learn and express my opinion, maybe even provide news)

Other than 76ers and Flyers overflow, have they said what will air on 610 while the Phillies are on 1210 and 94? I can't imagine they're going to host local talk shows on there like they did before 94 flipped.

I wonder whether it was the Phillies or CBS that pushed to have the games stay on 1210 in addition to 94. In 2012, what purpose does that serve?

Maybe best of shows?

If they're gone, it won't be because they were No. 2 in sports. It will be because they can get better ratings doing something else (even if they're not No. 1 in that thing, whatever it is).

Not better ratings, better billings. There is a major difference some times.

Clear channel (lowercase) signal, audible in blah-blah states.

1210 is a dead zone anyway, so it's not like it's a significant issue to simulcast them on 1210.

No one is suggesting that 97.5 is going to change formats I hope? They draw a much
larger audience than with previous format and the demographic is
desirable. I can see getting rid of the AM feed. I flip back and forth
between ip and the fanatic.

If we're being specific, it's neither better ratings nor better billings, but higher profits.

WNUW did better income then the current WPEN, not sure about it's profit. GM would rather push its FM numbers to AM then drop it's AM, where WIP-AM would gain. They'd sooner drop the sports talk on FM, imo.

GM could halfass a CHR and do better then they are now, plus WIP-FM would go into the top ten. I kinda think WBEN will turn to CHR because of the stations current playlist edits.

what did the djs say on 97.5 ?

"scared for the future of the station" has came up once before on a late afternoon.

Yes that was the announcement. They will have all the games and the Phillies even gave Sportsradio WIP a studio in the stadium.
Wow seems like just 5 years ago the Phillies front office had a no WIP in the office ban. Oh wait, it was 5 yrs ago. The Phillies and WIP have sure come along way from the hurt feelings of be bashed for 20yrs.

If 95.7 was planning to flip formats, trust me the on air personalities wouldn't even know until a few hrs before the flip. Still they know the ratings (the full ratings we don't see), and what WIP is doing, so the hints your talking about could be them sensing they don't have much time. Still if WPEN is making money, they aren't gonna rush to flip just because they're #2.

oh really lets go back to may 13th 1999 when 95.7 flipped formats out of nowhere to jammin gold 95.7 the air personalities
knew nothing all they knew is that they where out of a job

now check your facts before you post oh and we where talking about 97.5 flipping possibly not 95.7

Maybe you can prove it to me but I see now way that station format did better than today's format and in the desired demographic it wouldn't even be close. Please provide some numbers with links.

All I need is ratings from 2009 for WNUW

Well, then let's see those. Both for total and the demograhphic. I am sorry but without proof, I don't buy this.

What is the idea/goal to prove again (the back and forth got a tad confusing)?? WNUW and WPEN are two different animals when it comes to target audience demographic, so what would a ratings comparison show? In the end, it's the profitability factor, so billings and expenses would need to be factored in (and that's at the simplest level), moreso than a ratings comparison.
