940 ESPN Flip

You're right, 940 probably does not have skywave protection. Never the less, that station allowed folks to listen to the Giants games in certain areas where KNBR was subject to adjacent channel interference.
If I had my way about it the Giants would stay on 940, the A's would go to 1430 leaving 790 free for the Grizzlies. Zero MLB on the radio in Tulare County now.

I agree the Giants should have stayed on 940, I remember 1270 AM had The Giants and 1400 AM had The Dodgers, but that was years ago, maybe now 1270 could pick up the Giants, of course that means they would also be on their FM translator 97.5, 1270 and 1400 are the only AMs In Tulare Co. that are in English.

Yup,Giants,49ers and Lakers on 940..A’s,Raiders and Warriors on 1430..Sac Kings and CBS sports radio on 790,we really don’t need or want ESPN on 2 frequencies ……Also what a waste of 50k watts on 940.

Yes, There's nothing wrong with running major sports teams on music radio, KKBZ 105.1 Carries the L.A. Rams, and that's the way it was before all sports stations expanded over the last 20-30 years.

Okay for an NFL team on a male dominated station. MLB can be quite disruptive on a music station, especially one that relies on cume and skews towards women. There are just too many baseball games.

Growing up it was the Giants on KYNO and the Niners on KFRE! Good times.

It sounds pretty good and they actually play the hits for the most part. Curious how they are affording the licensing fees without the adds. Wait a sec...I just heard Stephen Stills (Live version), into Lay on Your Hands on Me by Bon Jovi..... Sigh.
very few internet stations have adds.. and few have such high listenership that cause the right fees to be so much the owners cant pay them out of pocket

Back to KYNO
Is it just me or does the audio processing seem a little weird? Like they want it to sound "brighter" than a usual AM broadcast. I was hoping this would be left behind on 1430, but it wasn't. Check out Richard the Lion this Sunday on KXEX, I'm pretty sure its 1-5pm, tell me which one sounds better to you. If you don't mind!

Did the engineer make some adjustments to the audio processing right after midnight this morning? The streaming signal dropped out at just past 12, when it returned the audio quality was much better. At least over the internet. The ELD in my truck creates loads of interference on the AM radio so its hard to tell if the signal was improved.

Ive been hearing 'Richard the Lion' since the 60's. Yes, 940 just sounds so AMish. (Not Amish lol AM-ish)
And worse than it needs too! I swear that bumpers played on the talk shows right up until last week sounded better. I think they want it to have that slightly out of tune quality that some people choose when using an analog tuner. I don't like it!

It definitely sounds better today! Less muddy, more clear. The highs were shrill before. I don't expect miracles on AM, but this is pretty darn good.

One thing, this station is great for us Dxers, well I was more FM and TV with a big Antenna with rotor getting Bakersfield to Sac. To The Coast and Loma Pieta tower like KNTV 11 ABC and KBAY 94.5, well anyways, more interesting to listening to the sky waves with music, instead of the same duplicated News/Talk/Sports stations, like the old days.
