949 The Sound

Hmmm... Judging by the logo, it doesn't look like competition for WEBN. Maybe more along the lines of a AAA or something less intense. We'll see here soon...

no, but I just read some about some samples...Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Nirvana, Green Day, Chili Peppers, with some surprises thrown in...

Wasn't that the same gimmick at top ten at 9 on Q102 during the early eighties? Gee, what will it be tonight? Another One Bites The Dust or Space Invaders?

Direct Link to their webstream... mms://wmc2.liquidcompass.cc/WPRV?.wma

According to Kiesewetter, they are going to play 9,490 songs in a row...no commercials, no jocks. Once those are done (early December) it will be all live jocks with a morning show attempting to be more like The Daily Show than the Dawn Patrol. Should be interesting...

For what it's worth - I like it!
Good mix of AAA - refreshing, uptempo, and finally something unique for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky radio.
Kind of like WTTS (Indy)?

I find it nothing like WTTS in Indy. Frankly, the playlist so far is rather mundane and unsurprising. If it were like WTTS; I'd be excited.

I like their stream on broadband--very well done with good quality... UP THERE with the best in "net" quality--GOOD JOB! Yep... "WHY sound like the others" (as they are are telling us during this intro) in their image plugs? Seems to be a "hybrid" AAA/AOR. I think I like it... This "slightly aged guy" will happily contribute some TSL (on the net anyway)! It would not be my "first preset" if I were back home... but then I can't think of ANY others in current Cincy Rock FM radio that would either. I must reflect back to WHAT I expected from "Album Rock Radio" in the day, and although outside their target in age--they have my interest--and initial respect... It's always fun when a new format hits town... These folks deserve a chance! WEBN has been (well ya know) for years... And they were my "most cool FM" in 1973! A slight reallignment may be fun!

out of towner here...havent actually heard the station but I praise Entercom from keeping an alternative station in the market..seems to follow the music of their other alt stations in Seattle, PDX, Sacramento, and KC. Only bad thing I see is Nickelback is listed as one of the artists they play. BOOOOOO!

949 The Sound. I like the moniker. The only other station I've ever heard use this is 99.1 The Sound (WVOD) on North Carolina's Outer Banks. Of course, there the moniker is as much in reference to the huge expanse of water that separates the barrier islands from the mainland as it is to the music. Haven't heard it in a few years, but that was/is a fantastic little radio station. Definitely more AAA and modern rock though than what 949 is now doing here.

While difficult to draw many conclusions this early, I find Cincy’s new Sound to be more tolerable than WEBN, although I doubt I'll be listening much since it's still too hard and younger skewing for me. As noted by a previous poster, something closer to Indy’s WTTS would be more interesting to this middle-aged white guy. But it is nice to see someone take a more sophisticated approach to rock as an alternative to EBN's tired shtick. The sinister, redneck, dirtbag feel of WEBN lost me many moons ago.

Three cheers to Entercom for shaking things up a bit and attempting something a little different.

I'm waiting for the on air staff and the morning show that said to have John Stewart type humor.

I would have liked a station like The Fog in San Francisco. I little intellegence to the Alt Rck format may prove to be a success especially on a signal like 94.9

Welcome back, 97.3, on a bigger stick. Tamed somewhat, but it sure sounds a lot like its predecessor.
