95.3 in Tijuana Now Playing Classic Hits

While most of the music is nice, but at times, too saccharin for my taste, it won't bring in the listeners 44 and under as they prefer the acts that are more rhythmic and rock than the soft pop that used to make the charts through the mid 80s.

I just heard the top of the hour legal ID. they went from whitney houston to the carpenters. Sounds like a soft AC/gold format similar to what 95.9 in Palm Springs is doing.

Interestingly, all of the songs are ones that were hits in the major urban areas of Mexico. They did not play, over quite a few hours that were monitored, any of the many, many US hits that were not hits in Mexico. So far, this seems like a format aimed at the Tijuana market... and unless they change the imaging to English, it will remain so.

Yep David Eduardo, I have to agree. Listening to this station and having gone to live in Guadalajara as a kid I remember Canal 58 (Don Manuel Lopez Agredano) and Radio Internacional (Las Cinco Ondas de la Alegria, a Diaz family property.) The songs Milenio plays are deep cuts, side B stuff and generally stuff that isn't even thought about now. Being bilingual, I don't mind the few commercials that they run and their PSA's make sense, unlike the Walrus with Mexican PSAs translated to English that make no sense. Yep, it seems they're gearing their advertising towards Tijuana. The traffic reports are only border delays. No mention of US freeways. I LOVE this station.
Peace out!

David Eduardo, This station is still playing great oldies. Do you think they will keep the format? and how are the ratings doing?

It has gotten a 0.0 or 0.1 in the SD market over the last 6 books.

The INRA ratings for Tijuana are not available to me, so I have no idea if they are "happy" with the TJ performance.

The station was supposed to take the Milenio news format out of the Milenio Radio / TV / Newspaper / Web central operation in Monterrey; I have no idea why they still run an all music format.

Uh, that's a Classic Hit?
Sounds more like Adult Standards, to me...

Yes, it's a classic hit! Enjoy them....

News/information programming is heard mid-day and in the evening hours around 5 or 6pm, or whenever
the need arises..
The music has shifted more to the lighter, old KYXY sound.

I'm 50, and I love this format. Just some of the forgotten gems I've heard them play: Olivia Newton-John's "Don't Stop Believin' (not to be confused with the Journey hit that came out years later), Carole King's "Been to Caanan", Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again Naturally." stuff from The Carpenters -- plus '60's pop standards like "Stormy." Many of these songs are never heard anymore on English-language radio. Sure, call it saccarine, but most were huge hits at one time.

Just wish 95.3 had a better signal in East County. Here in La Mesa, if you go behind a small hill, their signal completely disappears.

How are the ratings on this station? Does anyone listen on a regular basis? This station plays the most variety of every decade that I ever heard an oldies station. I Just heard unforgettable by Nat King Cole then Whitney Houston then Silhouettes on the shade by the Rays. I wish I could understand what the announcer is saying. 8)

It got a 0.1 share in January and February, but a 0.0 in the March book, 12+.
