95.5 NASH FM?

tsherck said:
With WRXP 94.7 NASH FM coming on in New York today, I was wondering when will we see NASH FM 95.5 in Indy?

Cumulus would be absolutely stupid to re-brand a heritage top-rated country station in a Top 40 market so it could be a part of their "brand".

However we are talking about Cumulus....

If I had to bet, I would think those stations that are currently losing or "second in a market" will be the first to convert - a test if you will.

The big question - will the new national Nash format be based in NY or Nashville?

All bets are off when we're talking about Cumulus. I agree with radioboymark. The Cumulus Cincy country station at 94.1 would be a more likely candidate to be re-branded.

I agree that it's hard-to-say what will happen. To me, it would be easy to combine WFMS with the "Nash" branding without ditching the heritage of WFMS. Since "Nash Country" will apparently be more than a radio brand, there would be no reason WFMS couldn't promote the "Nash Country" magazine and the lifestyle bits without changing names. For the magazine and possible cable channel as well as concerts, it could do something like, "The Country Station 95.5 WFMS and Nash Country present..." Cumulus could essentially promote "Nash Country" on its country stations much like it does SweetJack.

That would make better sense to me, but Cumulus didn't ask for my advice!

I wonder if Cumulus will switch any of their "satellite" service (from Dallas TX) stations? IIRC There are a bunch of small market stations using the service.

Because THAT has been such a huge success.

Just wait for the first book that Hank passes WFMS, then watch the brand switch and the subsequent spiral.

I'm sure the new format is based in Atlanta, just like everything else at Cumulus.

I doubt Hank will ever pass WFMS until they get out from under their sports broadcast albatrosses.

Nash radio sounds like something that should feature Don Johnson.

Hank won't drop sports as long as it brings in $$. The Colts games also expand their cume. At times on weekends it's hard to find anything on Indy radio but sports, infomercials, and voice tracked music formats.

I do know that theyare changing "The Wolf" Branding in Dallas to Nash FM. Just don't be shocked if they do it to WFMS

According to Inside Radio and a quote from Lew Dickey, "The Wolf" in Dallas will be "99.5 The Wolf, a Nash station." Assuming him to be truthful, this is a far cry from changing the branding, at least in the short-term.

Maybe they are starting small. I see this over a year or so
being the brand.
BTW, how is the ID going to sound? "95.5 WFMS Noblesvile Indpls,
a Nash station and a Cumulus station". That is a mouthful!

This reminds me of when the Lazarus department stores were re-branded as "Lazarus-Macy's". Not long after that, they dropped the Lazarus name altogether.

At least WFMS isn't called "the Wolf". I bet they keep the heritage calls and become something like "WFMS Indianapolis is Nash FM, a Cumulus station." I imagine it would be easer for Cumulus to re-brand stations identified primarily by their calls.

but the problem is the Legal id for WFMS is WFMS Fishers-Indianapolis.

Here is a question thats not being discussed. Cumulus owns three country stations (WFMS - WWKI & WMDH) that all have signals crossing into each other. How will that play out??
