95-5FM WSM "The 90s to Now"

I heard this this morning when flipping through the channels. They took my advice! I can actually listen to them now, assuming they're ditching that stupid "Wolf" tag. It's about time they capitalized on WSM call letters. I'll admit, I do like that they play more country from the 90s than other stations.

All the Wolf branding is gone from the website - except for the name of the home page but that's an easy thing to miss!

I'm sure they see a big opening with The House Foundation gone from WSIX and I always liked it when Gerry played some of the 90's (and 80's) country you don't hear much.

It's going to be interesting to see how all of this pans out after Christmas.

Scratch that - they changed the logos but the headers and Facebook page still say Wolf also. Maybe they are mid-transition? ;D

Their sister station's website Title still has "Nashville's Rock Station." It took RQQ awhile to make a new FB page. I had planned on listening to KDF, but I'm giving (almost said the wolf) 95 a try. Rick Marino, Tim Ross; I'll try it.

They're still saying the Wolf, but the logo on the website is updated. There are still a few Wolf logos on the site, though. RQQ still says Nashville's Rock Station on half they're site. But, it makes sense...we all know why that is.

Facebook page titles are not very easy to change by admins. I suppose they can try and put in a request with somebody to have it changed to reflect its new identity. Beats creating a brand new page and asking fans of the old one to follow you over to the new one.

I don't know. I counted "The Wolf" no less than 42 times on their home page-

Perhaps they are slowly phasing out the Wolf name? I just heard a traffic update on 95.5 with the woman doing the update using the 95-5 the Wolf name (and "Leader of the Pack" traffic which I presume was a Wolf name tie-in?), and there are liners running saying "95-5 the Wolf is WSM-FM" that seem to run every 15 minutes or so, not as a legal ID but more to let listeners know that the name has changed but the music is still country. Besides that, the new "95-5 FM WSM" name is what appears to be primarily being used, including by the jock who said it exactly like that three times in one break a few minutes ago without once saying Wolf.

As for the website, it still says © 2009 Cumulus Media Inc. at the bottom, so I wouldn't read too much into Wolf references on there. Moreover, if it is a slow transition, that would simply be part of the change.

KPLX here in Dallas are doing the same thing, but they're still called "The Wolf".

i think that they sound great....my only fear is that they alienate the older demo, which was what PPM says most of the former House listeners were, that they are obviously trying to cultivate by saying that they are ignoring '89 and older. Does what I am saying make ANY sense? lol

The music is spot on at 95-5FM WSM! It is a wreck to listen to the morning show. Rick has been at how many stations now? He's just not funny.

A friend who does some work with Big D & Bubba told me that the two are unhappy about being passed over for the House Foundation time slot. He said that they may be in conversations with WSM FM. That would be an interesting twist and if so would they be on in mornings or afternoons?

Nobody is playing any songs from '89 or earlier on mainstream FM country radio stations anymore, with the rare exceptions of some early Garth ("The Dance"), stuff by artists still making hits (George Strait, Reba), and a few mega-hits from those days (Alabama's "Mountain Music" comes to mind). Other than those instances, it's not a common occurrence to hear anything from that era. WKDF stopped playing "the legends" several years ago.

And besides, just because they say "The 90s To Now" doesn't mean that they HAVE to start programming music that was recorded on 1/1/1990 or later. Obviously, it's just a general branding statement based around the genre they've chosen. When I was at WGFX back in 2002-03, we said "Rockin Hits of the 80s & 70s", but had several songs on the playlist from the mid-90s and mid-to-late-60s as well.

2 months ago I wouldn't believe I'd be saying this (couldn't stand stupid Wolf name), but the reason I listen to WSM-FM now is because they play the "old" stuff - more than KDF or SIX (and I like underdogs). 1990 was 21 years ago! (only 3 after I was born) Granted, I like to hear some true old stuff on 650 and 98.9 here and there, but as far as picking one station for hours on end, WSM-FM wins hands down on quality music with good variety. When's the last time you heard the Judds or Bryan White on 98? Dare I call them the "Jack-FM" of Nashville country stations?

I also am not sure why they dropped the "Wolf", but would love if anyone has insight on that move.
"The Wolf" at its worst still wasn't as bad as "the Tower"!

"..."The Wolf" at its worst still wasn't as bad as "the Tower"!"

...or it's sister, "The Rooster." Still trying to figure out how Hopkinsville and BG can have stations called "The Beaver," yet was just horrendous for 106.7.

106.7 was The Beaver for a few weeks and then abruptly became the Rooster. Guess the threat of a lawsuit can change somethings.

I don't remember that. Must have been a very short stint. Just long enough to maybe play John Cafferty and "the Beaver" Brown Band or something. ;D
