The Game has the advantage of FM and the available cume for this type of format. I think they may have
miscalculated just how much of a core sports market the Bay Area is. This isn't Detroit, St Louis, or Boston.
The Bay Area fans have a lot more to do with status and class than pure sports. I've seen A's fans move
from the East Bay over to San Mateo or The City, suddenly they are sporting Giants gear. While East
Bay fans have a rep for being more hard core, I think it's still a relatively small group of people who
are interested in every move the A's & Raiders make.
No matter what the Game does, it will be quite difficult to ever be the go to station for the market's two
most popular teams. No stars on the Game, either, journey level talent (even the new staff). I am not saying
KNBR is full of pure talent, but you must be remarkably better as a new challenger to win the battle.
I don't hear it. Also, being all local can be a disadvantage, in that you must continue to hit the same topics
over and over. Unless, you have deep talent who can add a ton of personality, perspective & entertainment
quotient to their show. I wish them the best, Cumulus is a heartless empty machine.
