95.9 in Charleston is on/off right now

Probably testing. I heard it this evening between 7pm and 7:45pm then it went silent again. It was crystal clear. There was no station identification. The music was a mix of different genres (it wasn't a simulcast of CHUCK)

I listened to the station here in Elloree tonight and it sounded great. Only problem is due to the lightning storms earler we have a big band opening right now and I can't till how strong the signal will be under normal weather, I can hear almost every station along the grand strand, heard Charlotte, and even Jacksonville, FL like they were right here with me in my truck. I could move the truck a few inches and hear a completely different station loud and clear from many different cities on one frequency and could hear a station on just about every frequency out there and yes I checked everyone. The music on WIOP sounded great will try it again in the morning or a little later after everything gets back to normal.

I am thrilled to see a Classic Top 40 station in Charleston, that is something that they have desperately needed and I love the Tom Kent network because Magic 98.5 here in Columbia plays his syndicated show at night and it is great.

Yep, and they have a pretty good signal, too (from WXTC's West Ashley transmitter). Charleston has really needed one of these type of stations, since 102.5 went to Adult Contemporary. Well, now we have 23 FMs in our market, and each one of them has a good signal.

Radio that looks like a part of the graphics for a future website. I heard them use the best of the 60's and 70's slogan last night. I am still waiting to see how their signal will be under normal conditions, I heard many radio stations from very far away today still comming in but not quite as strong as before.

Yeah I realize its the new graphics, but it surprised me that it popped up instead of the 1390 website. LoL So they are going by just "FM 95.9" huh? I would love to be able to DX the station here in West Columbia, but theres a translator for 1470 WQXL on 95.9 that has been on for a while now. Makes it impossible.

On the DXing subject, the only Charleston stations that frequent the Columbia area even without DX conditions are 101.7, 99.7, and 92.5 at times. All of which happen to be Apex stations. :)

The station sounds pretty good, has a rotation like the old 102.5, but it is a good station. Beau Weaver is doing the VO for the station, on "Charleston's Greatest Hits."

If only they had some local personalities, which they might get, they could have good ratings.

I wouldn't be surprized if they remain jockless; it being the rage and all with Sales Managers and owners who don't want to shell out salary money for talent.

I remember seeing job adds for local talent for 95.9. It was posted on STAR 99.7 and B92's website

Does anyone know if they ever intended to go sports talk? So glad to see the classic hits back in the lowcountry....and even happier to hear the music sounds like the old 102.5 - they were very good as oldies/classic hits until they screwed it up in '07.

I love this station!
Here is my question however what will 95.9 do to 101.7?
I thought 101.7 was playing a lot from the 70s?
But it is wonderful to have oldies in Charleston!

Must agree with NC radio geek. The choice for 95.9 is an odd one, considering a fair amount of overlap on co-owned 101.7.

I had high hopes for 95.9 since Apex is at the helm. Color me disappointed.

I like the music better on 95.9 than the mix 101.7. Signal wise here in the Elloree/Santee 95.9 is pretty good with just a little fading in some spots. If you drive toward St Mathews then they drop out but for the most part no problems. 101.7 puts in the best signal here followed by 100.9 then 96.9 with some fading and then 95.9.

Actually I think this was a good choice. This music 95.9 is playing always did well (top 5) in Charleston and it was desperately needed. Makes much more sense than bringing back The Wave, I knew from day 1 that wouldn't happen. I'm sure 101 can be tweaked (and even 95.9) so there isn't so much overlap.
