95.9 THE EDGE TERRE HAUTE

Terre Haute Radio is and Always will be Garbage! WBOW was the last hope talent wise, but nobody wants to work for Failed Market Mgr or a "*** Hag" Brand Manager.

Going Country against WTHI is certaily a very wise idea!!!! DA!!!!! Why take on the 900 pound gorilla in the market place that has been number one for a gazillion years? Crossroads had no concept on how to run a radio station much less a small group and Midwest is not much better. Look at any of the trades on any given day and you will see ad after ad for job openings within Midwest. How can a company that is making advancements in the station count constantly turn people over? My understanding is they are a "bitch" to work for and with. I have no dog in this hunt so it makes no difference to me.

The only possible way going against WTHI could work would be to market it as 'Young Country' or something similar and go for a more progressive country playlist than WTHI offers.

Even then it's a fight for meager table scraps.

There is a strong audience for AC in that market, it just needs to be properly sold.

And presented and promoted. WBOW-FM wasn't going to make it on a three share, no matter how good their sales staff.

I think in terms of WBOW-FM it wasn't the ratings. They were top 4 the last 4 books, and 18 months removed from a 10.3 share 12+. Crossroads has never had a solid sales or promotions team. They have failed miserably calling on clients the WBOW-FM station catered to.

There are sales departments all over the country that are selling in markets similar to Terre Haute with no ratings and making money. A poorly trained sales department that is lead by management persons with little or no broadcast training is doomed for failure. Crossroads had a chance to win but feel way below the line long before all of this started. I understand that Dan Lacy is a fairly intellegent man but have have no idea why he (or his group) would allow these stations to sink to such a level of failure! They do have a few talented people in the group but when owners and managers are not watching the ship it will drift off course!

Having worked at WSDM for some 18 years on a part time bases I've been reading your posts with some interest. Many mistakes were made by more than two persons. Something that frustrated me was those that were programming the various statons were not held accountable when the numbers didn't roll in. Two individuals had numerous chances to program WBOW-FM, WSDM and WAXI. Radio of old wouldn't have put up with this. At the time of purchase, WBOW-FM was going oldies, hoping that the traditional calls and the 50kw stick would punch it's way into the market. Sadly it never got the chance. What is good radio these days? Someone have the answer? I'm excited for the up and coming changes in Terre Haute radio and sad that Brazil won't get it's station back and be a home towner, but maybe WAXI will. Time will tell.

If DLC media is in fact buying WAXI, I'd bet on the station returning to focus on Parke County.

Milo kind of summed the CR saga in a few words. They had the chance, a number of times, to fix the station (s) but took no action and now they are being sold off in pieces. I agree in the old days when ratings slipped the PD and air staff were given the opportunity to fix it or find a new job and the same was true for sales. When the sales fell either the GM, the GSM, or the sellers were put on notice. As I have mentioned here a number of times there was a huge lack of experienced leadership at CR and you see where that got them. When the owners refuse to spend a few dollars to bring in a qualified leader or a consultant to fix the problems they win end up at the bottom of the heap and that my friends is what happened with CR! Sorry there are some owners out there with money or the clout to finance stations but have no idea how to run them. There was talent available but nothing was done.

So does anyone know when any of the changes that have been discussed on here will actually take place?

I've not heard any dates. Would anticipate the Crossroads transactions go down whenever the FCC approves the deals.

Emmis has to file for approval first ...
