95.9 WSPO now country

If 96.9 The Wolf does poorly now with this new country station which I hope they don't. Could we see Citadel move z93 Jamz to 96.9 (96.9 Jamz) as its a better signal in Charleston? No one has said that yet. Then WTMA could be place on 93.3. Or another idea make 96.9 a Hot AC Mix 96.9 Best Mix 80s, 90s, Today.
98.9 Chick Fm already has that cdovered. Or at least it's close enough no one would want to go against it.

Definitely in reaction to the loss of 95.9 I'd think, Y102.5 has really cut the currents back and is playing more older music. They have dropped some AC currents entirely and aren't playing the others as much. They have gone much more conservative with newer music.

And the ratings for Y weren't so hot either which might be why.
That is a good point, as classic hits 102.5 was top 5 material.

They played "Temptation Eyes" by The Grass Roots from the 60s on 102.5 today with more and more 70s and 80s. I wonder if they are transitioning back to classic hits? They never really flipped from classic hits, just transitioned to AC slowly.

They are still like an AC, just very gold leaning, which is increasing. If you look at the Mediabase chart on AllAccess for WXLY you can see how the currents are dropping.

If AC listeners don't like the gold lean, then yes Chick FM or maybe 101.7? I know Y started going AC'ish around early 2006 to start going after Sunny, but still played mostly 60s-80s. When Sunny flipped, they went straight AC but still played a lot of older music. If Sunny were still here, I would think they would be doing worse...but would they have transitioned to AC if that had not happened?

Y102.5 is interesting. They evolved from oldies to classic hits to AC from 2005-2007....there was never a flip or overall station change. Their logo is still the same even.

Y102.5 needs to either pick staying AC with some oldies or just be a classic hits station and let someone else handle AC in Charleston. But now I also look at why the Y102.5 ratings dropped because of WIOP coming into town with the classic hit format so people that listen to Y switched it over to WIOP I feel. Now Y will gain back some of those listeners because WIOP is now Country.

Putting on a third country station in the same market to pull ratings from WEZL is simply cheating the system for ratings on another station. I would have a hard time claiming I was number 1 in the ratings in that market gaining it in such a manner that really depended on two stations just to lower one station. I would say this speaks very highly of WEZL in the Charleston market much like WCOS in the Columbia market a very solid station.

Before summer the ratings on the new WIOP oldies format were starting to make a respectable showing.

That station had such a great sound, if it had been up to me, I would have left it alone and think if they are trying topple WEZL, then good luck because that station speaks for itself.

I agree, Lhsh.

John Tesh is gone from Y102.5. Guess he didn't fit with the direction they seem to be going in. Going back to mostly classic hits would be smart for 102.5.

I agree, I think 102.5 started dropping because of FM95's growth but like I said they are a poorly imaged/presented AC. Y was so dominant as oldies/classic hits, that's probably why they are trying it again....still playing some currents though. Hopefully they'll go full blown classic hits again like 05-07. As for if/when/who would do AC....who knows.

If someone were to do AC in Charleston I wouldn't be to surprised that Y would fix their playlist again. But could be wrong. So what does Y 102.5 currently sound like? Anything like K 104.7 in Charlotte, NC which just did good numbers with their older ACish type playlist over 102.9 Lite FM.

Historically 102.5 has done better with classic hits/oldies type music. Like I've said, they were pretty much always top 5 as that....that stopped when they went to the AC blend and we see where the ratings sit now.
I would compare Y102 currently to Lite 102.9 in Charlotte or My 102.5 in Greenville, both sister stations, but playing less currents.

Like I said on the Charlotte board, K used to lean older than Lite, but I think it's pretty even now.

In all Y 102.5 should just lean old. I was listening to them lastnight as I was able to pick them up. They played a few older songs then jump into Colbie Caillat then into Jimmy Buffet.
