950 AM

Does anyone have info concerning the station on 950 in Steubenville? Do they have a format....are they selling blocks of time? I was told that a doctor had offered 80 thousand but they apparently they don't want to sell it.

I believe the station's owned by Del King. He's held on to that station forever. They had an urban AC format I think it's the ABC one.

950 was my old stomping grounds back in the late 70's and early 80's. a pentacostal church is also invoilved with it also. studio is on sunset blvd. across from Jefferson Technical College. The have a number of churches running half hour shows on sunday... very few commercials running on it.

I think Del's been out of that station for some time. But the last time I listened, they were running Urban AC.

The studios are on Sunset Blvd and rarely do I see any cars out front of the station... I'm sure the only money coming in is the sunday local church shows they run. Sad... back in the late 70's when I was GM/SM with a total staff of 8 people we were billing over $20k a month...no ratings but a great staff and owner that took pride in the station!

20 G's, huh? And it was a daytimer back then, as I recall. You don't see those kinds of figures for daytimers anymore. Unless you're WEDO :D.

The owner of 950 AM needs to buy WKZV, then he would have coverage from I-77 in Ohio to 35- 40 miles East on I-70 in PA. In the daytime that is.

Yep... when you have the entire staff working together you could get a lot done. We shunned the "wilt" image that the station had before we arrived in 1977. we had some great people onboard Ray Reich ( co owner with Randy Jay)Jack Wienline , myself and others in sales, Gene Stabile, Mary Lou Jones Dave Gossttte and Paul Gianamore to name a few on air. We had the Positron jingle package and yes we ran reverb. we really tried to make a run at WEIR but being a daytimer was our acilease heal. However clients bought us because they saw us on a regular basis and we brought ideas! As I recall back then WKEG was also doing a bang up job I heard rumors they were hitting $30k a month. Sad that these stations have fallen by the wayside. Also I have been told that Scott Paulsen got his start at 950 when Capitol Broadcasting put WLIT on in 1972.

They were still doing that kind of business when I got there in '79. The owner then was Joe Nascone, who I think had been in sales at WTAE.

As I recall he owned the Wintersville BK which was in WLIT's market. My memory also suggests he never spent BK co op money on WLIT,
