95X is now La Kalle

3AM and they have been mixing all night long. If I understood right, they are mixing dance music in both English and Spanish all weekend long.

Yeah they sound pretty good. I wonder how dance-ish leaning they will be after they are done mixing.

I've been tuned into La Kalle 95.1 all weekend. I would definitely like to see 95.1 duplicate what they've done NYC with X96.3. An excellent mix of Spanish and English tunes. However, something tells me it's just a name change with little to no adjustment in the format.

haha Univisions is funny....cmon... all this is, is a name a change, and a sorry attempt to make the station "cool" by trying to add the "hip factor' with the La Kalle (the street) name.... There is nothing "street" about spanish pop..... Univision already failed once in S.A. with La kalle, why try it again?

Imaging wise the jingles are "cute" ;D They are wanna be KISS fm jingles. Carlos Pratt as the imaging voice is a bad choice, he is more suited for more of a spanish adult format. A La Kalle type station needs to the imaging to sound edgy and almost like an "I dont care attitude."

Musically...not sure what its gonna be like since all they have right now are mixes and there all dance remixes. If its anything like its La Kalle sister stations, its gonna be a bad balance of spanish pop, alot of bad bachata and whatever reggaeton is still out there.

Havent heard the jocks but knowing Univision they are all going to sound "Fresa" osea que buena onda no? lol that will totally take away the "hip factor" they are trying to add to the station.

Sorry for sounding negative but im just beeing real....Good luck La Kalle.... ;) ;)

Geeek i think one of the problems with univision is that their "inner core" of radio minds (vps of programming) and many bureaucratic layers have not allowed them to move fast enough or be agile enough to keep up with what is really "going on" in spanish radio and the quickly changing spanish radio listener. unvision is stacked with programming execs who WERE GOOD many many moons ago and are still doing things the same ol tired way they did them 10 years ago. Aside from David Gleason, they have no real vision or understanding for the nuances of what spanish radio is becoming. This feeble attempt to revive a dead concept (la kalle) is a perfect example! Good luck to them but I really think they need to rip the guts out of that corporate machine and bring in some fresh new blood to stir up the "ideas" pot a bit. No disrespect to anyone who works for Univision but that's just my humble opinion.

I couldn't agree more. A few years back, they had 97.7 La Kalle and that didn't work out so I don't understand why they'd try it again. I think you're right about them just trying to sound more street because the music is almost exactly the same. I remember the old La Kalle (97.7) used to play lots of reggaeton and I used to like that alot but so far, this is just a bunch of mixing. And listening to it today alot of it is uncensored at that. jaja. I heard them say shit once and also "chinga su madre" (**** you basically) But when I heard this morning about the "format switch" and that it was La Kalle, I was hoping for an all reggaeton station but it's just a bunch of mixing. I wonder how much longer they're gunna keep this up before they do another "format switch"...

Well you were right. The mixing is over and the only change really is just the addition of a little more reggaeton to their rotation and absolutely no English.

I sure wish Austin had a "La Kalle." When do you think Digital, Hitz FM or any other Pop En Espanol format will come to back to Austin?? I didn't think we would be without one for this long...

Im sure it will happen before fall, La Jefa is posting up the same numbers it had as Hitz. The problem with Univision and its "problems" with succesfully executing a good spanish pop format are.....

Bad programming

Bad imaging

Talent that cant stop "puking" on the air

and just over all not knowing how to create a fun "hip" sound on air.

Hitz was an utter failure because of these factors, they had young appealing music, but an older sound over all.

Like ive sai before, you cant be called "La Kalle" or "Hitz" and not have a hip sound to your station.

Go ahead Univion...put La Jefa out of her misery, and flip for the 5th time in less than 3 years. Let's see how much of a disaster La Kalle will be in Austin. DO IT PLEASE DO IT! ;D ;D

If La Kalle is programmed correctly it can be a great format. I don't agree that an Adult Spanish Top 40 stationed named "La Kalle" is a good name for that type of format, like Univision is doing in San Antonio. "La Kalle" should be a Latin Rhythmic Top 40 station with hip imaging and Jocks that can sell that 'Street' image.

Just my 2 cents.

No one of real meaning or consequence, meaning owners with real $$$$$$ and a real commitment to GREAT RADIO in Austin will ever try this format again in ATX! They are too scared off by the previous poor attempts made at this format in the past and they all must think that "well that must mean that the format can't be successful in ratings or revenue so we won't go their". NO!!!!!! That means that you as a real radio owner/investor bite the bullet and hire THE RIGHT PEOPLE to do the RIGHT JOB so you can reap the rewards!!! Like that old adage says; "It takes money to make money" but they should have added "ALSO HIRE THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO DO THE JOB RIGHT!!!!!!". Univision is waaaaaay to scared to try anything else since they don't have a full-time GM in the building anymore so thier attention to detail has dropped off the face of the earth and their programming staff is less than stellar from what I've heard. Take away their 800 lb Gorilla named Piolin and they are in real trouble across the country! Just look at their ratings after that morning show is off the air and they can't seem to muster any real leverage with their weak 107.7 signal in Austin which has seen more face lifts than Joan Rivers! I'm Out!

I think 107.7 should try a "La Musica" moniker, have 3 radio personalities Mon-Fri., 2 on the weekends, and do remotes out of clubs like Planeta, Club Deportivo, etc, on Thursdays and Saturdays. They should have a foundation of Shakira, Juanes, Julieta Venegas, Thalia, Paulina Rubio, etc., and they would be able to come away with decent arbitron. I am not really worried about 107.7's coverage area, it is not KHFI-good, but it covers all of Austin, even downtown between the skyscrapers.

Also, La Jefa is the same as La Zeta and La Que Buena. It's all norteno. Hopefully 107.7 realizes the potential the young Latino market is capable of and takes advantage of it instead of playing the same music as its competitors.

Looks like the playlist has been adjusted a bit to include tracks by Ke$ha ft Pitbull, David Guetta & BEP. Not just in the mix but on rotation.

107.7 does not have a good enough signal to win with Spanish Pop, Spanish AC, Spanish Adult Hits or Regional Mexican (all the formats it has been since it launched in Spanish). You cannot win if the product is not right. You will not win if you don't understand the format. You will not win if you don't understand your market. I am talking ratings. Revenu is a different story. You can get the ratings, but can you sell it.

Remember that Digital was beating HITZ, and that caused the station to change formats (ratings), but neither HITZ or Digital in Austin made any money (you need to know how to sell it). In McAllen and Laredo, Digital is a BIG WINNER, because they know how to sell it. Also, winning in ratings.

It's interesting that Digital in Austin would not know how to sell the format because it was launched by the same people who ran Digital in Laredo and the Valley.
