96.5 Firing

T.J. Holland from co-owned WARM 98 is the new PD.

... and you know what? It makes no difference. Holland was "PD" before Giutarri (sp) and will, if he's lucky, be selling hot dogs outside the WYGY building after Cumulus takes over. Swensson will probably buy a few 'cause all he'll be able to do is choke it down. Good luck Dan, and eat up. We all warned you that this day was coming.

But you're obviously not bitter about it! :)

Well "Mom," TJ's not smart enough to take input or advice from a very successful Country sister station less than two hours northwest of here is he? It would have helped and SG might have never been in that drivers seat. Bonus question: When has anyone ever used the word "smart" and Cumulus in the same sentence? (Until now.)

Note to "Salami." No, I'm not bitter. Just laughing that they've wasted fifteen to eighteen months and are now back to the same management configuration they used to have. The one that got them nowhere against B-105.

You seem to forget

That TJ doesn't just run Star, he runs the very successful Warm and MoJo too.

He's not going aynwhere.

And, you DO sound bitter. Sorry the Indian blew you out.

But if he does, I'll bet they'll be OSCAR Meyer hot dogs...right Oscar, I mean T.J.???

Wrong Wiener My Friend...

This Hot Dog ain't owned by The Indian. I'm a free agent.

Nice try though.

Re: You seem to forget

And you seem to forget my original point.

TJ did nothing with Star when he was at the helm. The duties were relinquished (or taken away) since he couldn't make any headway against "B." (Yeah, too busy with "Mojo" and "Warm" right?) Perhaps he just didn't understand the Country format and the lifegroup. Giutarri came in and, for whatever reason, is out of the picture after fifteen months. (Maybe he didn't understand that your past WILL catch up to you.) So now WYGY is back to the same, woefully weak, programming management structure as before... when they were going nowhere and decided to make a change. Can we expect anything different now under the present circumstances?

I guess the only change they really made was to throw away some valuable $$$ on a PD they ultimately didn't need, didn't want, or who didn't get the unique culture at Susquehanna. Now, they're just going to cut the overhead and wait for the other shoe to drop. Think TJ got a raise for having WYGY dumped back in his lap? Hell no! I bet DS gets bonuses on monthly cash-flow prior to closing though. That's part of what keeps the value of the deal to Cumulus intact. What a shame.

Understand now, or do I have to draw a picture?

By the way, I've never worked in Cincinnati so they couldn't have done anything to "blow me out." Never worked at or near that frequency in any market. But I have managed, programmed, and worked at some great stations so I know one that's struggling when I hear it. I also know lame duck management when I read about it and follow the trail.

If you want to e-mail me you know where to find me right? (Hint: It ain't in Cincinnati.)

So...

Why attack TJ if it's Dan you despise so much? And why are you so bothered by this situation? For someone who claims to have never worked in this market, you're sure taking the WYGY situation hard.

Dan may be gone after the sale. TJ won't be.
Edited by Oscar on 12/10/05 02:35 PM.

Re: You seem to forget

I believe TJ was the "INTERIM" PD while trying to get a PD (Steve) on board if I remember right. What would TJ really have to prove at that point anyways if he wasn't looking for long term PD control of that station?

But you're not him. No, not you.

Read this, Oscar.

... and try to understand.

I'm not attacking TJ and don't despise Dan. I don't even know them except by name, reputation, and role there. I DO hate to see what could be a great station (and a wonderfully competitive battle) mired in weak management, weak on-air talent, and full of excuses. This describes that property.

All that said, I couldn't care one way or the other how it all turns out. It's just an interesting story of how "not" to do radio. Sure, it happens everywhere but Cincinnati is possibly the only market where Susquehanna has direct competition in the format and screwed it up so badly. We'll see who's gone after the sale. TJ? Dan? Both? Everyone? I'm pretty sure no one's bulletproof in today's world... radio or otherwise.

By the way, care to respond to any parts of my previous post or do you just want to ask more questions? You know where to find me.

Oscar, ignore the Russ Schell (rujoking) posts. Russ is just a little cross because Dan didn't hire him. He programmed WFMS years ago and must be a jilted ex-lover. His genius wasn't noticed at the time so he has an ax to grind (and probably needs a gig). Seems he had just been canned about that time of the Giuttari hire.

Russ is one of the most brilliant minds in radio. Just read his posts and look at his track record. Oh, and the fact he now seems to be doing overnights by the times he posts. Wow.

Re: Read this, Oscar.

Again, he does know them. He used to work for the company and interviewed with Dan. Shame on you Russ Schell. You are being a naughty naughty poster.

Oscar read it

That's fair, but your first post just seemed pretty bitter, what with the hot dogs and all.

Susquehanna has done well here, but Warm has tumbled recently. Hard to figure out exactly why, but the two successful stations _warm and MoJo - don't have direct competition and that certainly contibutes to why they do so well.

Re: You're right

I have never quite figured out why everyone tries to pin posts on other people here...the fact is, YGY just plain sounds bad...whoever is responsible is responsible. I AM a country listener, and all I ever hear on either station is talk and commercials, at least B105's personalities are professionals. Someone needs to come into YGY and hire experienced jocks, not rookies or kids...might not BEAT B, but at least be competitive. In advance of all the speculation, no, I don't work for either station, haven't any axe to grind, just miss good radio.

Re: You're right

you may need to elaborate on that..

R u telling me Ken and Kitty don't sound proffessional or experienced?? They were by the far the #1 morning show in Allentown, PA which I realize is a smaller market but they have boatloads more personality than Bill & Amanda. Who says YGY wants to sound like B105? I believe that's what they DO NOT want. Country listeners want to have fun..and not be bored to death and have DJs talk AT them and not to them.
