96.7 K-Love Signing On Very Soon

The F.C.C. has not yet approved Cox Radio's application for license to cover, from the New Rochelle NY location. The application was made in late April, so approval could still take a while. The transmitter cannot be switched on there till this step occurs.
So no one can say with certainty when the switch from The Coast to K-Love will occur.

@Barry: That's putting it in perspective... of course, the suspense is killing those radio geeks who get bored after finding out what the format-of-the-day is over at 106.3 FM...

@MusicRadio: You wrote The Coast about the giant K-Love-shaped iceberg due to hit at any minute... If they actually comment on this, I'd be curious to see what they say. Share it with us, if you can. Also, can you confirm if the message you received informing you of the "three business days" window was automated (I'm guessing it was)?

@DToTheJ: You mean like your daily Kool 101 posts over on the CT board

But I digress... ::) (By the way, if you're keeping score at home, there are three stations I listen to simultaneously, as mentioned in the Rewound Radio thread - Rewound and Kool being two of them. Can you name the other? ;D )

I have been waiting every day since November to hear KLOVE which I listen to through my Blackberry. Sure is taking them an unusual amount of time to complete this deal. I thought today, May 12 might be the day. The Coast is playing Journey right now and pumping their signal loud and strong from Stamford. When will this happen?? I love the Coast, but I love KLOVE much more!!

I sent an e-mail to 96.7 The Coast...here is what i was told about K-Love change date will be...

Dear Dave:
Thanks for your email.
It's hard to say. Probably 30-60 days. But, anything can happen--could be sooner, but probably not later..
Thanks,
Kristin

Thanks Dave........I wonder if that means 30 - 60 days from right now, or the day KLOVE applied for the license to relocate the transmitter back on April 16. This is fun stuff, frustrating too.

Hey, Mike! I hear that it's got something to do with the FCC, and a NJ station that has to move, to allow the New Rochelle transmitter to sign on.

Update---E-mail reply about 96.7 K-Love...

Dave,

We had hoped to be on the air in New York City at the end of March/beginning of April, broadcasting on 96.7 FM. But God seems to have different plans. As we work on the details to bring K-LOVE on the air in NYC, we're praying everything will fall into place so we're there by mid-summer. Your prayers for our Signal Development Department and Engineers as they continue to work towards this goal would be appreciated!

I will be keeping your email address on file so when I hear we are on the air, I'll send you an email letting you know. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

In His service,

Sarah Outman
Correspondence Assistant

I do know that WTSX Port Jervis has to move to Lehman Twp, PA before the move of WCTZ can happen.....Listeners of WTSX have been informed that changes to 96.7 were coming soon and if they lost the signal to listen to "Fox" on other frequencies in the Port Jervis area like AM1490 & translator 107.7 and of course the main signal 103.1 WJGK from Newburgh.....Anyone know if WTSX is currently on the air at this time?

@MusicRadio: Thanks for sharing with us your inquiry responses from Cox Radio and K-Love.

That being said, I must ask with all due respect - and as a church-going Catholic, I can - anyone else thinks the K-Love representative is overdoing the religious speak just a little bit? I understand what the network is all about and what their message is, but that was just too much for me.

Not at all. :)

Most people, when they discover some great new restaurant, go and tell everyone, right? :) Same on this BBS- someone discovers a new format or station, they tell everyone. So it is with the Good News of Christ. Those who KNOW HIM can't help but talk about it. It's life-changing, after all. :)

Granted, there are some instances where people talk about it to the point that it does get overdone and overbearing. This letter from a representative at K-Love is not even close to that threshold, tho. IMHO, anyway. :)

Seems like there was an issue with WTSX's old CP which was for 5,000 watts @ 70 meters HAAT.....There is now a new CP for a new transmitter site only broadcasting 200 watts @ 72 meters HAAT.....Not sure if this is a temp CP or not but @ 200 watts WTSX is going to have a pretty poor signal......I wonder if this is one of reasons for the WKLV hold up.

Fybush reports this week: "...an application filed May 6 [was] granted May 9 to construct a much smaller facility than originally planned for the new WTSX (96.7), which must relocate from Port Jervis, NY to Lehman Township, PA. By downgrading to a minimal 200-watt facility at its new home, WTSX was able to file for a license to cover almost immediately after getting its new construction permit, and that clears the way for the FCC to license the WCTZ (soon to be WKLV-FM) 96.7 facility at its new home in New Rochelle, possibly as early as this week.

Not even worth the discussion. It is just one more spot on the dial that no one I know will ever listen too. No one- not to test out, not to see whats going on.

Point well taken... but I'm not a fan of stepping into a thread going on its sixth page just to say the subject matter is "not even worth the discussion". ::) You're right, though - the majority of people in the area will likely pay no mind... maybe a few radio geeks here and there in the first week of operations, but that's about it...

The PROBLEM is.. PEOPLE WILL listen to KLove.. IT may NOT be YOUR cup of tea..but there will be more listeners than you think.. Look Star 99.1 pulls a .4 in the market with a very rim shot share of most of the NYC Market so yeah .. I think KLove is going to do well. It may be not number one but I am sure it will be still earing more listeners than WBAI does for example.. which has a decent signal in NYC.
