96.9 new call letter application

It doesn't stand for anything, it just lays there on the paper.

I'll be here all week, try the veal.

Seriously, looks like an attempt at "Beat", who knows?

I know that calls are usually "meaning less" these days but was wondering what WBQT would stand for... Ex. WXKS KS=Kiss... WJMN JMN= Jam'n...WODS ODS=Oldies (pre AMP) WBMX MX=Mix and so on.. But if they do not stand for anything.. thats seems kind of boring to me... Unless I am just a radio nut. ??? Which may be why I am posting on this board.. Lol.

WBMX wasn't for Mix, originally. It was an urban station, Chicago I think, and it meant Black Music Experience.

Indeed... the legendary WBMX FM 103 (102.7). Just as WBMX would use those calls to become one of the nation's first hot AC stations, Chicago's WBMX dropped those call letters and picked up WVAZ, becoming one of the nation's first urban AC stations as "V103".

When you hear WBQT the B and the T will probably make you think of "Beat".

bostonradio.org needs to update some of their pages; I know, people get busy etc. and I'm not expecting perfection but the page for "WTKK" (former calls) has incorrect call letters and format
plus it says they're affiliated with:
Westwood One (CNN, Imus, O'Reilly)
Citadel Media Networks (Hannity, Sliwa)
Talk Radio Network (Hendrie)

CNN radio no longer exists. O'Reilly no longer does a radio show. Sliwa is NY-NJ only. They hadn't
carried Imus or Hannity for awhile; did carry Hendrie on wknds before format change. Again,I know
people get busy... and thanks in advance

WFNX lives!

Another outdated page:

Prog talk hasn't been on 1510 for half a year now, but they do have the latest news:
"Romney picks Ryan!" :)
>>Tune in today at 3pm EST to hear host Jeff Santos speak with movers and shakers from the world of politics and current events on Rebuild America - coming to you live on WWZN AM 1510 Revolution Boston

A month or so ago I saw the facebook page of a woman who was to be a guest on Santos'
show which does still exist as a stream/podcast. She said, "good news, I'm going to be on AM 1510!"
(Um...any of her FB friends who tuned in to 1510 prob got yahoo sports instead.)

Well, someone’s already looking to snatch up the old CALLs:

FCC Call Sign Query said:
Call Sign WTKK is not available.

A request for WTKK dated 03/20/2013 has been filed by CAPSTAR TX LLC.

ha! Well it's remote but it quite be for another Clear Channel talk station elsewhere. They have plenty. I was thinking Greater may have a talker somewhere and could have sent it there.

Capstar being CC, right?
Again the odds are against it but if they thought it could work (96.9 couldn't...) you could have
the usual CC mainly conserv talk sans Rush on 101.7 but again the signal isn't full market. Given
PPMs etc. would a Talk 101.7 work out for them? Could clear the shows like Beck and Hannity.
Would they hire back Katz or do another local? Do a "hot talk" to try to get the young'uns?
I would think it's for some other CC talk property.

But if they did try:
--Eagan and Braude are at WGBH, Meehan went to Ariz., Graham has his thing going in Worc.
or elsewhere (they could pick it up), Severin's at the Blaze, the Wall St. Wrapup show ends in
a few weeks. Smerconish, gone to POTUS on sat radio. Available syndies: Ingraham,
some Fox News Talk shows (John Gibson, Brian Kilmeade, Alan Colmes--now at 6 pm), Savage etc.
Run Fox Sports like JT overnight. ...yeah.... (/ sarcasm)

Or how about ...Matty's Comedy 101.7? :) (yeah but it wouldn't match the calls)
Prog talk? Some would like it ("I don't why they gonged you. I LIKED you. But then again I
like root canals."--Chuck Barris, The Gong Show)

Or...the rebirth of FNX, kinda? Alt music...coverage of music, movies, arts...young focus...

But we need to give Evolution a chance...to dance. Right? Still most likely targeted for one of
their talkers elsewhere. But we...shall...see.

Let the format change hot stove begin!

--Bloomberg 101.7, talk back on 1200. (Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!)
--WJMN 101.7...and 94.5 goes to talk. (Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!)
--WTKK calls land on a CC talker elsewhere (This I can believe.)

CC switched 101.7 to Evolution just before Christmas. The format change rumors at
WTKK were rampant and they did change right after the New Year. Do they, deep in
debt, dare try talk on 101.7 (not full market but reaches within the 128 belt fine).
The Evolution deal was worth a try, especially on a freq that was familiar with that demo...

Sometimes ratings aren't everything. That's why 1200 is Bloomberg now...they prob will get crappy
ratings, and yes there will be a lot of 55+ olds listening...but there's money in finance news radio.
If they wanted their talk shows cleared...but it didn't work on 1200. Would an FM work?

I still doubt it. But we shall see.
What if they lease out 101.7 to Entercom to simulcast WRKO? True the signal would be limited
but it would get on an FM and one more powerful than some of the lower-powered translators
in some cities.

I do like the new call letters, but especially the Q in them.

WZOU, while dance leaning, was still pretty much straight forward CHR. They did keep the calls for the first month before becoming WJMN. Oh, btw, I remember the Boston Herald reporting at the time that the original new call letters were WJMZ instead. Any validation to that at all?

whot??

I haven't listened to them in a couple of weeks now. Way too much repetition! Even Mix doesn't repeat nearly as often. I know apples to oranges, but still. Aren't they going after the same target demo? 25+?
