Change of pace......someone had to introduce a new topic; there's too much on here about what 101.1 "might" do and 94.1
So, are there any thoughts around here on Raleigh's 96Rock?
Initial thoughts: "Everything that rocks" is ridiculous. I can think of hundreds of bands and songs that "rock" in some form or another but aren't being played. Then again, my concept of "rock" is extremely eclectic so maybe I have no right to speak, but I'm sorry-- 96Rock's isn't. Nothing revolutionary is happening with the music. Stop pretending it is. I'll feel like their promos are preaching to me every time I don't like all the same old classic rock songs they play. “Everything” would imply so much more than what is being played. That’s all too it.
The promos and style of the station are also painful. I'm never liked stations which attack other stations or companies on the air. The average listener doesn't know [or care] who Clear Channel is, so hearing 96rock constantly make subtle and not so subtle references really gets annoying. I could say much more—but most of it would be absolute personal opinion that doesn’t belong here.
On a positive note, while I personally can’t stand it [I never was a fan of what is “between” songs,] 96Rock’s air staff has passion. In this day and age that’s a good thing, and you can hear the passion in their speech and attitudes. Again, it drives me nuts—but I have to respect it. Everyone who works there really cares, something that speaks volumes today.
But, that’s really where the compliments end.
