97× HD-3

There's not enough listenership or awareness of HD Radio to do that. The majority of HD subchannels exists for one of two purposes. 1) To feed a translator. 2) So a streaming channel can get the music licensing rates for a broadcast station.

KNX billed $20.8 million in 2023, which is fifth best in the market. And also the top non-iHeart owned station. Only KIIS, KBIG, KFI and KOST were ahead of it.

Music genres are very fractured.. And Alternative is split between two stations which combined in Los Angeles do quite well compared to many other major markets. That's an apples/oranges comparison. News affects anyone to at least tune in at some point.

never even thought of that ;
similar to ? Pandora tried to have a legit station in the middle of nowhere,
midwest USA to skirt legal issues

Exactly the same thing. And it wasn't that they tried, they DID have one from 2015 to 2017 for that specific reason.

Keep in mind that rate ONLY applies to the publishing royalty. There is no broadcast discount for SoundExchange.

They are absolutely opposed to giving that discount, and it's been a sticking point with MusicFirst.

As I recall, when Pandora bought that station, they were dragged through the mud by the PROs for taking money from songwriters. It was the beginning of the end of the great romance Tim Westergren had built with the music industry.
