Im sorry that you lost your format.. But Kiss still remains, as well as V103
and they both do a good job with the format. Also 102.5 Programs some great old
R&B I really like what they do.. It sounds good. The New "River just rocks...

Jamz potentially the future of Urban AC

I thought Jamz was an interesting experiment that had iffy execution. The programming of late 80s & 90s hip-hop and R&B was on point; it was the inclusion of 'new' recurrents that really seemed out of place.

I think there's two things to look for in the near future: either Urban AC starts to lose it's 70-early 80's 'old school', OR, a new urban blend takes shape focusing solely upon New Jack Swing-era soul and/or classic hip-hop. You've got a generation who grew up on this music, and they're now in the most desirable of demos for urban radio.

THATS THE FORMAT HOLE "RESEARCH" IS SKIPPING, OLD-SCHOOL HIP-HOP. 97.1 JAMZ COULD'VE BEEN THE LAUNCH OF A NEW URBAN FORMAT SPINNING ALL OLD-SCHOOL HIP-HOP/R&B LATE 80s-MID 90s. YOU EITHER HAVE TO LISTEN TO TODAYS HIP-HOP/R&B ON ONE STATION OR CURRENT R&B WITH CLASSIC SOUL R&B.

Re: The River is here

Instead of yet another lame classic rock format, perhaps they should have tried a JACK-like format targeted to blacks... That's right "Black Jack." Better yet, target it to black females and call it "Betty"... no wait, "Black Betty." I think I'll trademark that before somebody at Cox steals it.

What it is and what it isn't? Also what about the impact on 94.9?

Exactly.
Jamz was a great idea, but execution was poor. They didn't want to spend any money on it, or at least that is what it sounded like to me. I also don't care much for Cox radio, because they spend over an hour telling you how many commericals and how much talk the other (better rated) station has, then they tell you about their morning show, how they have the most music, then they remind you over and over that it is "_________" as they try to tell what it is and what it isn't. You know, I'm guessing if you add up all the time they spend consecutively telling their listeners all this, you'll find that cox spent more time doing this than spinning music or with their commericals. (lol) Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration. :-D It's a big turn-off for listeners and is the reason I don't care much for Cox radio properties. At least not in this market. B-98.5 is by far the worst at doing this. I always change stations when they do this. You can listen to a whole song at 94.1 or 94.9 in the time it takes them to say all that. I'm guessing it's actually around 4-5 minutes of consecutive talk. I want to hear that extra song, as do all the other listeners who hit scan.

What bothers me most is the short playlist for what is an oldies format. Call it whatever you like, but it is still oldies. This is fine for a station that is currents & recurrents focused, but not oldies. I think this time around they'll do things differnetly to get the most out of this signal. It should be fun to see how it does in the ratings and what impact this has on 94.9/95.5/102.5/103.3/104.1 as well as 92.9 and 96.1. You know 94.9 took most of the Fox/Cool oldies fans. I like Lite 94.9 and I do fear changes. Will these oldies fans leave? Will this help B-98.5? Will B-98.5 tell us for three hours straight how they will actually become #1 from this or who selected them #1 for listening at work? I guess we will see...<P ID="signature">______________

The River

Yeah, that's all Atlanta needs is ANOTHER lame Urban station. What you suggest would never work and even if it did, it would never produce revenue.

"Black Jack"-- yeah, sure.
