97.1 or KCBS to CHR

Tom Leykis can now go into retirement with a nice paycheck for doing nothing the next few years and then if he's bored maybe he'll join Bob Moore at KABC, but he wouldn't fit into the right-wing talk on that station.
Well he and Rush Limbaugh were on the same station in the past. RIGHT?
I'd expect him to end up on KLOS.

Unless Bonneville gets into talk, KLSX going away will be great for KFI.

seems like some kind of chr branded station, 3 domain registrations have been reported with the "Amp" name

this is getting interesting!

Another site with the initials R I is posting that AmpRadioLA.com Amp971.com Amp971fm.com were registered anonymously on 2/9 but that on 1/16 AmpRadio971.com 971AmpRadio.com were registered by consultant Anthony Acampora

Adding fuel to the fire: the news that Adam Carolla's last LIVE show on KLSX and Westwood One will be this Friday (2/20). Affiliates will get "Best Of" for a month...but the LIVE show is over this week.

so does anyone think this will be geared after their current sub hd channel? i doubt they would go with anything "teen" in a major market.

None of those amp971 domains say they were registered by CBS Radio in NY - my memory may be failing me, but that's what who CBS's domains usually say the registrant is.

Likely they are "taking" the Amp name from 93.1-HD-2 for the new format. The www.ampradio.com site that had a home page with Jonas Bros and friends was covered with a generic screen yesterday.

Google "ampradio" and click on "cached" and you can see the old home page. It has a CHR look to me.

Tom Leykis will not end up at KLOS. That station is not going all-talk in the near future under Bob Moore. Why would they? They are the only true classic rock format in town.

The Tom Leykis reference was to sister KABC not KLOS. Ideally, he could slide into their PM Drive displacing Mark Levin with an issues based program (similar to his success back in the day at KFI). I do not envision KABC making such a move until at least a half year or so of Mark Levin in that slot. The numbers will have to bear it out that his style does not resonate with LA. I think it won't, but the #s will tell the actual story.

As to KLOS, I agree that they should not drop their rock, but they could go more AOR, rather than just classic rock.

He's got great male demo ratings and Bob Moore was his boss at KLSX. There is no reason why you can't have a personality driven format in the afternoon as well as mornings on a Classic Rock station.

Bob Moore stated in the OC Register article on 2/12 that he was going to hire a major talent. Sounds more like now, not later. Again, I certainly don't see any reason why Leykis could not be on KLOS even if it remains Classic Rock.

Didn't KGB San Diego do something like that?

Tom Leykis would then become a DJ instead of talk-host I don't see him going to KLOS. He has never worked at a music station in Los Angeles. If he went to KABC he would have to go back and become what he was in his heyday at KFI. After all the bashing he has done of "AM Talk radio," I would be very shocked to see him end up at KABC, but it could happen.

One more thing which most people don't remember. Tom Leykis was briefly on 710 talk KMPC after they switched from sports in 1992 and if my memory serves me correctly he failed at that station. I just think Tom Leykis has just lost his national presence and going back to AM in L.A. would be a step down for him. BIG TIME! It will be interesting to see if Bob Moore does bring any of the KLSX talent over to Citadel.

Why would you label him a "DJ" if his show was all personality and no or very little music? Would you have considered Howard Stern from some of his K-ROCK New York (KLSX) days to be a dj because he played a couple of songs?

KLOS loses 50% of their audience at 10am (give or take) in men and persons 25-54. KLSX beats them by both measures. Why wouldn't they consider bringing the midday and afternoon shows over and then playing music after 6 or 7pm and on the weekends.

Actually Stern did refer to himself many times as a "DJ" when he was on WXRK & KLSX. Putting on a show that has little or no music on KLOS in afternoon drive would kill the format. Also Tom's FM audience was made up of a very large hispanic male demo and they do not tune into KLOS. Maybe David Eduardo can chime in on this.
