Was trying to listen to the River since it is the only 70's I can get on the local band, and they are "welcoming" listeners of 106.7 AGH...lol... ::) ::) ::) :p

Brent, when I tuned in it was The Eagles and "Hotel California". Used to be my favorite song by the group but I'm so sick of it now I'd be happy if I didn't have to hear it again for at least 10 years.

I'd call River pretty adventurous. I mean, what other station is going to dare play "Stairway To Heaven" these days...

Didn't 105.7 / 96.7 The Groove welcome Beat listeners when 95.5 The Beat folded up before Groove actually started tweaking towards a more "Beat-Like" sound? Is there a chance that The River may be on the verge of tweaking towards a greatest hits oldies type sound?

River seems to be playing more pop...they were playing Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" this morning...and easing up on the older (1960s/1970s) AOR. I figured that they would trend newer but not softer.

They just played The Jackson which is something I don't recall them playing in the past. Looks like they may take what they have and add a little more pop leaning songs in part welcoming the 106.7 listeners.

Do you mean jackson browne ?

@BRENT (sorry, don't know how to quote), it was yesterday at 10a.m. Someone mentioned above in this chain that the river may tweak towards classic hits (pop). One thing about the River, they never do anything overnight. Any tweaking is done very slowly.

Yesterday
10 a.m.
The Jacksons
Lovely One
The Jacksons

This would definitely be an improvement on what they're playing right now

If I had heard that I would have said WOW haven't heard that on the radio in ages. It was a top 40 song from their 1980 album "Destiny" on Epic records. Maybe I should try giving River another listen.

I can't figure River out, at all. They're adding more classic pop, and then they are adding 90s stuff like the Red Hot Chili Peppers (heard them again this AM).

I can see them going harder, deeper, and newer (which would explain the RHCP), but the pop?

If River wants to go classic pop hits they need to jump in with both feet. The folks at Cumulus would then breathe a sigh of relief as then they would know what to do with Rock100.5.

Methinks the next shoe in the market to drop will be CBS and Dave, unless Cox wants to take River in a different direction. I would have thought that Cox would have won that staring contest with 100.5.

I NEVER thought I'd hear pop on the River. The only reason that I can think of why they're doing it is because they are trying to gain as many of the old AGH listener's they can and trying to discourage another station from flipping to Oldies/Classic Hits. It will be interesting to see how it affects their ratings.

I am streaming them from here in IL and I heard a liner saying classic hits from the 70's, 80's, and 90's so maybe they are slowly gonna morph into another "Chuck" type station, but with it being so close to the Chuck in Gainsville I would not think that would be the case. Bet they are just gonna waver and add a few pop tunes here and there and see if it holds or see who else maybe go true classic hits with a pop lean... CC1

But they are still playing the same ole shite.

Could Chuck on 103.7 be a test for a possible move to 97.1? Apparently a lot of 97.1 listeners also listen(ed) to Journey and AGH, and the number one complaint about River is the tiny playlist.
