97.5 Pine Level

Anything new on this? Several weeks ago they came on simulcasting Hot 103.5 in H'ville, then dead air and then completely off.

Mid May is the goal date to be on the air. Translator will be on 101.5 in Montgomery also. John Norris, previously middays at Bama Country 98.9 has been hired on. There was another person hired but they have came and went to my understanding...can't remember their name. Format is oldies from 60's, 70's and 80's. On air they will be known as 97.5 The River.

That's the first thing I said, and the person who told me this said again 101.5, right beside Y102. Very Very close to Y102.

That's not unusual. Translators have been licensed as close as two channels (400 kHz) within another station's 60 dBu contour. Here in the Birmingham area, two new WAY-FM translators will be very close to other Birmingham FM's. One of these will be on 105.1 in the Pelham area (which is two channels away from WZZK-FM at 104.7) and the other will be on 102.9 in Birmingham (also two channels away from WDXB at 102.5). There are also two EMF translators close to WMJJ at 96.5. One of these is actually on the air in Gorgas at 96.1 (just north of Birmingham); the other CP is for Calera, also to broadcast at 96.1.

Looking at the FCC site, I don't see any sort of CP for a translator in the Montgomery area for 101.5. There is an applicaton by Radio Assist Minstry, though, for that frequency (licensed to Montgomery). Recnet states the application is subject to being dismissed under the "FCC's 10 application limit".

And...it slipped my mind, but those translators I mentioned will also be two channels away from both WBHJ at 95.7 and WENN at 105.5.

There are a few translators here in Huntsville that are also two channels in distance between other stations. Oddly enough, two of them also belonging to Way-fm. 99.5 which is two away from WAHR 99.1 (a 100,000 watt station) and 92.9 which is two away from WWFF 93.3. I don't really understand the 92.9 translator for way-fm. Its not on the air yet but its broadcast from the same site as the parent station 88.1, making its coverage area right in the middle of 88.1. Anyways, There is also 100.7 which is two away from WQRV 100.3.

The 101.5 coverage map looks really good for the Montgomery area. This would serve as a very good translator for the Pine Level station, but it is subject to be dismissed under the 10 application limit. Maybe Stroh has a deal with Radio Assist Ministries to either buy or lease the translator in some way. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
