97.7 Chuck FM Greenville

Yeah, I've noticed 96.1 and 95.1 from Charlotte both suffering from more interference. With this radio market, I like to have as options as I can!
 
I was comparing Chuck to the new Jack-FM in Jacksonville...that station seems to truly play "everything" with some new stuff even...they're more like the old Charlie FM. Chuck is more of a glorified classic hits station - something I don't mind (I've said this market needed classic hits for a long time).

If Hot didn't somehow do decently, I'd love for Chuck-FM to be on 98.1. Talk about a crap station but the signal is decent at least in Greenville and Anderson as well to the southwest, much better than 97.7. They play some of what B plays then a bunch of rhythmic leftovers....crap.

Then, 97.7 would be a nice little signal for Alternative, a format Cox has done...

I wonder why Cox Radio would put that up in Gainesville,
as it would compete with their other Classic Hits signal (97.1 The River) which is also in Gainesville, GA.

Although the same thing could be said about 92.5/100.5 both in the Upstate, competing/overlapping country signals
with a similar format and both owned by the same company. Doesn't one usually affect the other (ratings wise)? ???

This new station would also compete with another recent sign-on WYAY 106.7 (owned by Cumulus)
which also has a classic-hits format and is also licensed to Gainesville, GA.

Gainesville now has 3 Classic Hits signals....
Nonetheless, congrats to them on expanding the "Chuck FM" brand. 8)
 
106.7 is flipping to news Tuesday morning so it wont be competing with Chuck. 106.7 would have competed with 103.7's recent format better.

LOL whoops I got that backwards, 106.7 "Atlanta's Greatest Hits" is going away. And is about to sign on as a new news station to compete with WSB. Which leaves 97.1 & 103.7 as a classic hits monopoly NE of Atlanta owned by Cox.

"Atlanta's Greatest Hits" on 106.7 only lasted for 18 months so thats still kinda recent, lol... ::)
 
In my continu-unce to praise Chuck FM, I'll state that it helps heal that small eardrum scab left behind by that Awww-ful Star 103.
The gal that they had (allegedly) Programming(?) it was easy on the eyes, but was about as confused as a blind cat trapped in a whore house attic!

I didn't mind Star 103, but Chuck FM is much better. It really sounds good. I've heard it at a few local businesses lately also.

About the two country stations - seeing that they both are always right at each other in the ratings book, I think they complement way more than compete. CC protects 100.5 as a mainstream country station by having 92.5 program more of a gold-based country format with "true" country currents mixed it. Having that combo probably sells very well and keeps any other station from trying to go country and cut in to CC's share. It's been and worked well that way for years.

I have noticed since Channel 96.1 changed their antenna back last December, they are more subject to weather related interference from Project 96.1 than they used to be before the change. But I guess it is due to the change in antenna pattern from their new side mounted antenna, as they are still a full power signal. And I sometimes get static on 95.1 since around February; not sure if some kind of change was made. Hopefully they will improve, as I like both stations. But I get good reception with rabbit ears at home, it's in the car where reception becomes spotty.
 
Obviously not a scientific poll (or else WJMZ would always win), but didn't know if anyone else saw that Chuck-FM was picked as the favorite radio station in the Greenville News' "Best of the Upstate" in last Sundays' paper. Nice job, Chuck.
 
Certainly deserving of it. I can't speak about the Country stations, religious stations (outside of that joke called "Shine"), or Jamz, but this station definitely does the best job of the others. They have been consistent since day 1.

I think they are told ahead of time who "wins" so they can get them to advertise in it. That said, I do wonder sometimes how the votes are tallied. I remember long ago when 103X was chosen as the favorite station in the Best of the Upstate. And we all know how that station ended. Hopefully, the same won't happen to Chuck (but being on a translator, they seem to be doing well).
 
I remember seeing Chuck-FM asking their Facebook fans to vote on the Greenville News website, I believe. I've never participated in the "Best Of The Upstate" feature so I don't know how it works. I'd think the advertising is connected to whoever wins. Special deal? I don't take the News, and can't view it online, so I'm not too familiar with it.

I think Chuck FM is a different situation than 103X (RIP :( ). It is doing well given what they have to work with, is cheap to operate, and probably makes money for them. I think it will do better than Charlie FM long term. It seems more tailored to the market's needs.

R-I doesn't post their ratings along with the other trends, for whatever reason (ratings for WJMZ-HD3 are on AllAccess), but they are above a 2 now, getting a 2.3 share in the May-June-July 12+ trends, up from 1.9 SP12. Great to see! There is (and always was) definitely a market here for a 70s/80s based station.

That is pretty impressive for a translator competing with stations with much stronger signals. Good job!

It'll be interesting to see if your sister station X98.5 can get decent ratings as well with similar strength.

As much as I'd like to take the credit, I'm just observing ;) I do have to commend Cox as well, though!

When 96.7 did rock, with a slightly better signal, they got around a 1.5-2.0 in their latter years (Chuck is already doing better than that), so it will be interesting to see how rock on 98.5 does.
