97-7 Rock is on the air!

Univision!

Now that was ballsy!

That is right out of the Cox Playbook!

use a flanker to attack the leader cuz they used their flanker to attack your leader!

that last trend must hurt!

ha ha ha!

except - they actually used a stick someone could hear....

any whoooo

things just got fun
!

I remember having this discussion a while back and I remember I said Classic rock or Amor as the format for KLTO, but the winner is Gibby for predicting Active Rock.

But don't be sruprised if they take a shot at an English station. I've enjoyed Univision's version of Classic Rock in Albuquerque.

Bingo. Amor would be disastrous on KLTO, unless they put it back on KCOR. Fragmenting KISS makes more sense to me.

Congrats Gibby, now can you predict the lotto numbers ;D Would reallllllyyyyyyyyy come in handy

Looks like someone from Cox waited a loooooooooooooooong time to say that.

So are you saying Cox invented format flipping and changing 97.7 was Univisions way of "copying" Cox? Sound stupid? Well it is. Cox didnt invent format flipping. Fact of the matter is pretty much nothing in radio is original anymore so stop crying about it. All that comment did was reassure everyone on here someone from Cox is pretty scared they have to attack the entire company on some message board.

Did 98.5 employees come on here when Power came in and bash Cox on the boards? Maybe I dont know, but not that I remember. My PDs over the course of my career have always told me, the best way to get under your competitions skin is not to talk about them. Univision is making that mistake with their imaging package. The mention KISS way too much. Cox employees are making the mistake of showing every radio geek on here that Cox is scared by bashing them on the message boards.

Oh and by the way who cares?

Not bashing you BackWhenRadioWas but you set yourself up for public mockery. Just calling it how I see it.

**Watching From The Sidelines**

Come now take it easy on BackWhenRadioWas. Everyone here knows where I work, but I have to agree with him a little on this one, just not the way he said it. Here's what I think,

Typical radio war tactic. Only difference is when Cox used it with 106.7 they had a 100Kw stick behind them. 97.7 will do nothing to KISS except make them laugh. If K-ROCK couldn't beat them on 102.7, it's a huge longshot on 97.7. I don't think it will even save The Beat and keep it on top. As long as KBBT has been number 1, there are others besides Cox who have them in the cross hairs, simply out of "coraje" (frustration). That means the days of KBBT pulling those monster shares they used to pull are OVER. Not saying that KPWT will replace them on that throne. Just saying they can't strut around with the arrogance they've been strutting around with for a long time, because they will be getting hit from all directions. I think at some point we might even see a Power/Beat pissing match similar to KJ/Y100 in the ratings. At the end of the day though, you gotta agree, that someone at Univision is concerned about the latest trend. It wasn't a good one for them....

As always just my opinion. Please don't hate or try to call me out, just respond polite if you agree or disagree.

The reason power may sound good to you is because all they did was take the Beat's playlist and smack it on 106.7...anyone can tell you that.

i like the hiphop battle but im more into top 40...come by my drive thru..i hook u up with an extra burger!

However, if the beat were lose that coveted #1 spot or fall out the top 5 i wonder how long Univision would stay with this format and this station....

lets not mention the $$ would also be going away....

silent majority---what would you say if the kbbt dollars went away..im sure that would line your pocket very nicely!

I stand corrected.

Talking about Drive Thru huh? Sounds awfully like a bunch of recent HOMEO postings. Are you and him one in the same???

Oh and if you are giving out free hamburgers I am all about that. I need to gain some weight.

what can I say :D) I'm not eaxactly hoping for the new 97.7 to win! Regardless of what happens on either side, I will still work hard to make money cause I unfortunately don't make a huge salalry like our friends at Burger King or McDonalds. Whether it's a little station in some unknown market ;) or a number 1 rated top market station...I've been in this crazy industry long enough to know the secrets of making either one of them work for those who do business with me. However, to answer your question more simply...i would certainly not complain if the kbbt dollars went away. ;D

It's on the air but no stream, no logo, no website, and no response to my MySpace message - they have not logged in since 3/14/08? What is so great about this station anyways? Has anyone seen this logo? When stations change, they should have updated websites no more than 3 days afterwards. I'm calling them very soon and they better have explanations.....!

then how do you account for the hundreds of stations round the country that have no webpage? I'm from the midwest and there are tons of small market stations out there with no webpages.

Oh and no offense my man but you cant call them and expect them to justify themselves to you. you wouldnt be promised an "explaination" even if you were an actual employee.

They got KLTO sounding good though for Rock the Equalizer is set just right, sounds good. Who ever is the engineer of it did a good job.

Romeo-

why don't you suggest to the powers that be that you hire 2 or 3 hot females from college and teach them some basic radio.

Guys would really go for a rock station hosted by 3 young hotties. Also if you guys want to flank the beat with this station-put up some billboards or something so people outside of radio know about it!

The Bikini promotions team-wwwhooooooooooweeeeeeeeeeeee! Lisle and hahn can't touch that!

Bring on the bud girls as dj's yeah mon.

I (for some odd reason) agree with this guy.

I was in Austin today, near 290 and SH 130, and had great reception, better than at my house in Converse. I couldn't believe it. Pretty cool station, just wish they would stream online.

That's interesting; then again, we've seen some enhanced tropo activity lately. And speaking of signal strength, I was going through some old files about the sale of KVCQ Cuero (now KLTO-FM McQueeney) back in 2002:

Purchase Price. The consideration to be paid by the Purchaser in exchange for the Units shall be $3,000,000 (the “Base Purchase Price”); provided, however, that such consideration shall be increased by an additional $2,000,000 (the “Contingent Upgrade Payment”) if, within during the three years after the Closing, either (i) while any direct or indirect subsidiary of Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation maintains a majority ownership interest in KVCQ, such station receives program test authority to broadcast from the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio as a Class C1 or better station (or other facilities with comparable coverage of San Antonio as a Class C1 or better station) or (ii) Rawhide (or its successor in interest) sells KVCQ for a net purchase price of not less than $16,000,000.

Well, of course, we all know that didn't happen, as the deadline for an upgrade to the Tower passed back in '05. That's a very long, torturous story unto itself, and the point is the signal they have now, barring something totally miraculous and unexpected, is the signal they'll have from now on.

On the coverage map, it shows a broadcast from Gonzales county, but isn't the station in McQueeney, near Seguin?

The tower location on the map is correct. McQueeney is their community of license.
