97.9 on the air

I have been checking daily and just now I caught Rock 100.5 on the new 97.9 translator. I assume they are just testing and the translator will be used for something else.

I just checked for it and it is strong. The signal strength at 97.9 is actually better than the signal strength at 100.5 in northern Gwinnett. I didn't expect a signal this strong. It could be the weather? I can't receive the translator at 102.9 when I'm in Dekalb County, not far from the Fulton County line, but 97.9 is clear and strong in Gwinnett. Unfortunately, 98.1 in Greenville is now completely blocked. I would like to hear something other than Rock 100.5, since I can receive their signal with no problems.

Great, I can listen to WLUP down here. Johnny B, Yeah Baby! I wonder if the Loop will re-hire Zakk Tyler? Last I heard Zakk was hanging outside a Home Depot looking for construction work. Either that or he is headed to LA. I saw that the Dodgers signed Zakk's man crush, Will Ohman.

I find no mention of 97.9 on radio locator. Where is the translator located & what of its predicted range & contour?

Good Barnsey and Jimmy need a job and from what I can tell on the NYC board so will Leslie soon enough.

Other option perhaps they will just relay 99x.com with Jillian in the morning.

Cumulus owns 97x.com. It's currently a classic hits station in Illinois. It points to a very crudely-done site at http://97xtest.homestead.com/

Citadel owns 979x.com.

A cybersquatter owns 98x.com.

97X... Wasn't that the radio station sweeper RainMan got stuck on for a while? If it is, then they've got at least one sweeper done :D

hmmm, don't we have a lot of angry folks wanting a JAZZ format?

I'd be all for that if probable definition of jazz wasn't smooth jazz.

Sorry...Coltrane is Jazz....Kenny G is a lengthy visit in a dentist chair.

Cumulus Rock 100.5 &97.9.....this better not be the actual plan

If it increases TRG ratings further for awhile it could stay short-term. Having one of a couple dominant morning shows in the female and male demos would be gold for Cumulus. Before you write you smart aleck comments, in February TRG finished 5th 18 - 34 and 8th in 25 - 54.

There's no way that's going to stay once they're ready with the real format. Cumulus traded a station in Albany, GA for that translator. They wouldn't have done that to carry a signal that already comes in fine where this one comes in fine.

I know this has been talked about, but I don't remember the answer. Can the translator use an HD2 feed as it's audio source? If so, that adds a lot of options.

Yes. As mentioned in another thread, WCLK is doing this.

You can also use an FM translator for AM stations now.

But only if the AM station is on an HD2 feed first.
