97.9 The Beat

Do anyone know what's going on over there? I see no local personalities on their website except for the 7pm-12am shift. I'm assuming they're jockless after the morning show until 7pm.

That's what a lot of stations are doing these days to cut costs, since less people listen to the radio. 98.5 The Beat in San Antonio I think has 1 local DJ, maybe none now.

According to what I heard yesterday, new line up:
9 or 10am-3pm: Jazzi Black, (was part of Veda Loca's morning show)
3pm-7pm: P-Skillz, (move from nights)
7pm-12am: Hollywood Zay, (was part time)

I must correct you, Any Human, it is not less people listening, it's billing. Covid-19 destroyed many businesses and wiped out their advertising budgets. When you were doing $100,000 a month and then suddenly are doing $30,000, then you have to find a way to cut your costs as much as you can hoping it gets better before you run through your reserve savings and your credit line.

Things are coming back but we still have a long way to go.

To say things are "coming back" seems a bit premature. I don't think radio will completely come back to business as usual. People spent a good chunk of 2020 at home discovering the capabilities of their connected devices. I think the long term effects of this will have devastating consequences for traditional media outlets (both TV and Radio).

Stations were cutting costs before COVID hit. But COVID sure is a factor.

i would be surprise we are on the brink of Radio stations going into full jukebox with no voices except for ads and bumpers.

I doubt we will return to normal. If Covid-19 did anything, it got people to stop shopping locally and buying from Amazon more than in the past. Given the local business is the business that tends to advertise on radio, I fear a chunk of those dollars have disappeared as profits fell and some of those dollars are being spent online. People listening online tend to listen to local radio more often than not, so I think listening via radio will drop some.

And on the Majic 94.5 side, just heard Veda Loca say that she is the new midday personality. If so, she replaces Queen Indy Bee, who's been missing alot off of the station anyway.
