975 WILI translator sold to Red Wolf.

Doesn't Fuller have his fingers in a little station in Vermont or Upstate NY? I don't think the station is "Red Wolf" though.

I wonder if he's just going to take the translator north to fill in some holes... or has he secured the licensing for CT already??

Fuller owns WTNN Bristol, VT with a country format. The dead giveaway is how much of his staff is voicetracking WTNN. Brian Ram and Miss L who do AM drive on Jammin 107.7 also do mornings on Eagle Country. Rebecca Morse-Whitten of WBMW and now voicetracking on WMRQ does some voicetracking as "kim wakefield," Heidi West of WBMW middays does some fill-ins as herself, Glenn O'brien is listed as a staff announcer, and fuller himself is listed as announcer "Trooper John." I doubt he'd move W248AB up that way though, the number of hops would just be ridiculous.

Are you in Hartford? How do you know about Fuller? What will Fuller do with morning drive slot at WMRQ?

I'm on the air in CT, and have a fair amount of interaction with his stations and staff. I haven't heard anything about mornings on MRQ, but that translator is definitely for MRQ. I guess I"m just disappointed that a locally owned cluster with someone who hates corporate radio as much as Fuller does has all of their stations sounding exactly like the corporate stations! It's mom 'n pop corporate radio

Here's one difference. The ones who still have jobs at Clear Channel, CBS, Citadel, Cumulus, Cox, etc. aren't posting here on a radio forum under their own names. Yes, through the magic of technology, I'm also news director at WTNN and proud of it. That said, we also have as active a presence on the streets of Burlington/Plattsburgh as in Norwich, New London and increasingly in central Connecticut. Since you keep mentioning it, what defines corporate sounding radio in 2009? Is it not having a live body in the studio 24/7? And no, I have not been asked to post this in a role as corporate shill. Thanks for the plug, BTW...

Anyways, staying on topic....

I forgot to mention that Red Wolf has an application pending from that 2003 filing window for a 250 watt translator on 99.5 in New London, so that one will probably service Jammin'. You can continue to count on hearing Radio 104.1 on 97.5 in the near future.

Wat is really a shame is that 104.1 doesnt need the 97.5 translator and it has helped I98 with their coverage a lot. The real "local radio" in E-CT is from WCTY and I98 ... sure as hell not WBMW or Jammin.

As a former q105 employee, its just a shame what they sound like today.

Wow, then all that local news we give in the morning is a figment of my imagination. The parades we're in and local charities we promote are just a mirage and the offices we visit are fake. Kid Craddock on Q105 didn't talk about 47 cats found in a Groton trailer yesterday - Brian & Miss L and Glenn & Rebecca did. I can't speak for the Hall stations, but the more local radio the better!

Back to "topic": Why not wait and see what happens to the 97.5 Bolton translator before calling it a done deal?

A friend of mine reported a station on 97.5 playing Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano non-stop. He heard it very clearly north of Hartford, and could get it on the Mass Pike almost up to Blandford. I couldn't figure out what station it was and discounted the 97.5 translator in Bolton figuring it couldn't get out that far. Then he called back and heard a WMRQ Waterbury ID. So WMRQ is playing their regular format but 97.5 is playing Jose.

Has 97.5 been relaying WILI-FM Willimantic all this time? If so, I guess the new owners are trying to attract some attention to the station switch.

Paul

Getting a weak signal of it here in New Britain. WZBG-FM 97.3 of Litchfield is fighting with it on the side. For what it's worth, I did here a recent station ID on WILI-FM which only mentioned 98.3 of Willimantic.

They just ID'ed as WMRQ-FM HD 2 and had the translator mentioned afterwords. They ran an ad for the Central Auto Group and went back to the loop of Jose Feliciano.

We are now, indeed, only broadcasting on our main signal on 98.3 FM from Gates Hill in Lebanon, and online at hitmusici983.com. We were broadcasting on 97.5 until October 23.

Once their "Feliz Navidad" loop settles down, my sources tell me that the station will be a Spanish/Tropical format.

As a translator, doesn't it have to rebroadcast an existing nearby signal? Assuming that's true, what station will they be rebroadcasting?

Paul

Today, 97.5 is broadcasting snippets of songs with a quick number announced inbetween each snippet. I wish I was local to hear it--it's very entertaining! The selection of songs is all over the place--Coldplay to rap to Bob Dylan to lounge singers to Springsteen to Enya. I don't know what the numbers mean, if anything.

I know these guys at Red Wolf. They can barely speak English right, why in the world would they do Spanish? I would place my bet on some brand extension for MRQ.

I don't know, I think I speak English pretty well and I don't know you since you are using a phony name.

They're still doing the numbers and snippets thing at 2 PM Friday. Strange!

Its not Friday yet here. ;)

I know these guys at Red Wolf better than you, and we haven't needed an interpreter to decipher our English yet.

Paul

The license for the translator says the primary station is WMRQ, which means it is most likely going to be rebroadcasting WMRQ-HD2, a future HD2 Spanish station.
