98.1 The Ticket

Was it just me or were they off the air for quite some time the last few days?

I wonder if their transmitter got hit by the recent storms.

-Rob

I called them and the AC in their transmitter room went down for 2 days, reducing their power from 100,000w to 6,000w. But, they got it back up Tuesday. I can hear them clearly here in my office building now, which I couldn't do when the power went down.

Where is the tower localed? the database says "holt" florida (where ever that is)

-Rob

If he's going to sell the station, maybe it's time to fix the city of orgin? Holt must be outside of FWB.

I heard the signal al the way to Quincy.

-Rob

as usual rob, you do not understand broadcasting and the FCC rules and regulations.....they cannot move the city of license from Holt.....that is where it is assigned to by the FCC allocations table....the rules only require that the transmitter put a 3.16 mv signal (aka "city grade") over the city of license...and that there be toll free calling from the city of license to the main studio...plus, some other minor stuff....obviously, the main studio is located within the 3.16 contour since it is only about 1 mile from the transmitter....you can't just simply change your city of license because you want to....since this one has been changed already from Andulusia, AL to Holt, FL....it would be difficult to do....also very expensive...legal fees, lawyers fee (mainly lawyers fees)....just so you can say FWB at the top of the hour....they can ID as FWB all they want now....as long as they say "Holt" at the top of the hour, or as near to the top as programming permits during their "legal ID", which is different from the IDs they may run at other parts of the hour...

one more thing rob, if you will look at a map....just west of Crestview on hwy 90 you will find Holt, FL....the so-called database you are looking at only shows the city of license, NOT the location of the transmitter

Charlie:

Didn't ole Ron have a $3 million +/- (give or take $2.8M) long distance phone bill for
using phone lines to carry the programming on 98.1 a while back??? Did he break
any rules on that?

The old 98.1 signal in it's best days, before Hurricane Opal, was great from the Northside
of Hwy 98 to about 20 miles S of Montgomery, AL. Huge signal range to play to a bunch
of nothing. The old ID was WXCR Andalusia, Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach --- 98one Classic
Rock. It didn't cover any of those areas all that well. :)

Funny, still managed to bill better than the great signal it has now. Wonder why??? :)

Oh, is the AC failure proof that it's hot in Hale??? Argh!!!

When he first got the station, he used a dialup codec like a vector or a hotline for an STL. He claimed he talked to the telco who told him it was toll free dialing anywhere in Okaloosa County....the old 98.1 site was near Escambia Farms (Okaloosa County) and so he dialed it up for a couple of months and got a bill for over $25,000 from telco.....no sure how (or if) he was able to get out of paying that bill or not.....
As far as coverage is concerned, the more north you get, the higher the ground elevation and so the signal covered much more when it was located up north....now, half the signal is feeding the fish.

(((looks around)))))

Nope. Haven't seen ANY of you in the sales meetings - ;D

Pretty dang informed though.....WOW.

I love these boards -

ROK: bank on this --- you're right:

I, nor most of the other posters on this board will never
work where you work now! Need I elaborate?

I'm with you Tibbs...I don't know where that is he works..But ya can count me out.. (Looks over his shoulder to see if Sis Kaplan is getting ready to slap him) Nope! APE!

I was in niceville and couldnt hear them at all and theres tons of cracking and popping in the signal...basically you have a hard time listening to them....it sure doesnt sound like 100kw.
