98.5 HD-2 Continuous, Relaxing, Easy Favorites

WWJ Detroit is a heritage AM station owned by CBS. CBS bought channel 62 during the big Fox/CBS network swaps and was able to take the WWJ calls to the new TV property as WWJ-TV. We have seen lots of things with the heritage 3 letter calls in the last decade or so that used to not be allowed.

This weekend the main channel of 98.5 was pretty good too. In my car the radio always starts with 98.5 analog, then switches to HD1... then I have to manually move it to HD2. So, sometimes it starts on HD1 and I forget to move it up to HD2.

I can tell you 98.5HD2 is sure a great way to ride home after night shift at the hospital. No jarring obnoxious jocks who laugh at their own jokes- wait, there are no jocks. No aggressive audio processing that makes your head hurt, and not the same 20 horrible songs over and over played on other stations. Not to sound like "that guy" but it really is a great mix of music for ADULTS over 35. The more people that let Cox know, the better.

For the rest of you who don't have an HD radio, if you can find one cheap, get it and listen. Maybe Cox will find it in their corporate hearts (an oxymoron I know) to at least put the stream online or on I-Heart radio. I'll bet they'd be shocked how many people would listen.

Maybe he meant, uhhh, me, the OP. Or maybe Caller10, since that is who I was channelling... ;D But, Brent, you certainly have taken the ball and run with it.

Yeah I'm taking a step back for a while since I certainly don't want to monopolize the conversation about B98.5. FM and now 98.5 HD-2!

caller10, I think Brent would give you a run for your money on the conversation about this channel. Of course I cannot talk... I love to talk about AN106.7. :)

OK now, with all this talk of this HD2....could someone send me a scoped MP3, maybe 1 hour of broadcast's worth (which might be about 8 minutes long)? PM me :)

cd

This is the only signal worth listening to. But it has been silent going on 2 days know. It still shows up on the readout, but just blank air. Hope it is just a computer issue, I have called and left messages, but no response as usual.

I don't live in Atlanta, but I do have one of those Insignia $40 radios..great unit and I take it with me when I
go on bus or train trips. I'll be in Atlanta in a few weeks and I hope to hear it. Hopefully this is just a technical issue that can be resolved.

Amazing. All these positive comments about the format. This kind of feedback you don't get with regular primary signals!

It's nice to read about an HD station that is doing a format that is not heard in their respective market,or a niched format that used to be on the main signal. There are so many HD stations that are just relays of other stations in the cluster or cookie cutter music formats you can find on any main signal.

It would be great if HD radio catches on. There is so much potential and in cases like WSB FM, an excellent use of a signal to give older listeners a choice. As far as music radio goes, if you are over 55, there is nothing to listen to. Even the oldies/classic hits stations lean too heavily into the late 70's,early 80's, but that's another thread and that's the way of the demographic world.

WSB-HD 2 is back on the air. Have them on now, they just played Gordon Lightfoot, "Beautiful" and The Shirelles,"Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" and now I hear Barry Manilow.

About three weeks ago the main HD-1 channel was silent on 98.5. I called WSB and asked for the FM engineering department. The engineer that answered the phone "rebooted the computer" (his words) and the audio on HD-1 came back on in a few minutes. Next time it happens, make the phone call and that will probably solve the problem.
