98.7 The Fan Signs On At 12 Noon

Now playing: Semisonic: "Closing Time". Ten minutes prior, I heard Marcy Playground "Sex And Candy" - a couple of 90's tracks out of date with the "Play" playlist...

Now I hear Whitney Houston's rendition of the National Anthem from Super Bowl XXI - which took place in Tampa. Classy.

Followed by a liner, "Get ready to be a fan." Now playing: Steely Dan's "FM (No Static At All)."

After a "Field Of Dreams" dialogue clip, they played Europe's "The Final Countdown," featuring the lyric, "We're headed for Venus"... Mons Venus? ::)

That was followed by Rob Schneider's character from "The Waterboy" saying, "You can do it! All night long!" Now playing, Vangelis' "Chariots Of Fire."

I guess the theme here until the flip is sports-oriented movie clips mixed with songs synonymous with sports. I reckon we'll hear from John Fogerty and Gary Glitter before the clock strikes 12...

"Just a bit outside..."

"Get ready to be a fan..."

And as if on cue, now playing - Gary Glitter's "Rock & Roll (Part 1)."

You got the order mixed up but you're dead on. Centerfield is playing right now.

Can you also tell me today's lottery numbers? ;)

Guess what: John Fogerty's "Centerfield" is up next. This after the "There's no crying in baseball" movie clip...

I'll make a deal: I'll post lottery numbers as soon as they play the clip from "There's Something About Mary" where Warren asks, "Have you seen my baseball?"

Now they're playing a real nice retrospective on the history of sports in Tampa Bay.

Pretty informative stuff.

This lead into the launch of the station as well as a big announcement that 98.7 The Fan will air USF athletics.

The WHFS calls are already assigned to an FM 106.3 in West Palm Beach, though it is a CBS property.

Plus they're about to sell that station so I think CBS wanted to move it out of West Palm before they handed control.

I see this is confirmed on the CBS Radio website as well. Thanks.

Why would a Tampa station do a Steelers show? (Am I missing something?)
