98.9 KNUC rebrands as "98.9 The Bull"

At 9:00am PDT, Hubbard Radio Seattle announced another development for Country 98.9 FM: “The NEW 98.9 The Bull.” The station is still committed to playing more new country than any other country station in Seattle, with an emphasis on today’s top country artists.

“Welcome to the next evolution of 98.9, a personality all its own. More BULL, more MUSIC, more FUN” states Lisa Adams, Bos Taurus (Program Director).

There you go - I was predicting a 'Bull' someday in this market. Very similar logo to KUPL-98.7 Portland.

Be very careful where you step now with two pile-leaving animals running country radio in Seattle.

The new look is certainly an improvement over the old one. I like the branding change.

Why is there no page for the morning show on the station's web site? In fact, there is zero mention of the morning team on the jock bios page!

Programming wise, the station plays far too much faux country. Kane Brown SUCKS. The excessively pitched audio is also cheesy; sounds like something straight from 1990.

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m not terribly interested in a station that gives me more BULL. That should not be a selling point on any press release for a radio station...and I’m assuming Bos Taurus (the scientific name for cattle) is supposed to be a pun for PD...if for some reason I misread and it is her on-air name (a la Froggy country stations), I’m removing my car radio and using it for skeet practice this weekend at the range in Kenmore.

Just...eww...I get it, go for the Bull namesake which is hot in country radio these days. But this might be one of the most cringeworthy press releases in quite awhile. The station ain’t much better from the short snippets I’ve subjected myself through.

Agreed. But this is the problem with overused terrestrial radio monikers/branding. And why it's time to get rid of it. They're outdated clichés that can unintentionally turn into self-parody in the type of awareness radar we have today. Especially in an area not known for sprawling ranches.

In the voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "This is Bull$h!T". A good moniker would've been 'KRAP 98-9'.

And I agree with a previous post...the audio processing sounds terrible.

The logo looks a little too simple. Like something you'd find on a stock image site. Almost like a parody of a logo.

This is Hubbard, they're rolling in money here in Seattle. Couldn't they afford a hotter looking logo? I mean, they're trying to attract listeners, right? And today's listeners are web savvy.

Oh well. They obviously know what they're doing. I think.

There's 92.5 the Bull and 98.1 the Bull, Both own by iHeart

In Yakima, there's a 92.9 The Bull. In Portland, 98.7 The Bull, Houston has 100.3 The Bull.

Here a Bull, there a Bull, everywhere a Bull. So when listeners complain there's just too much Bull everywhere on the radio, they aren't being facetious. It's now a proven fact you can't deny anymore.

OMG I Loled at this

Full-o-Bull!
Bull in a china shop!
We've had our 'Bull' in Yakima since 2002. It's quite popular around here but KXDD has always been the heritage C&W station here, they've been around since dirt. KXDD (not to hijack the thread away from KNUC) has been adding a lot of 1990s and even a few 1980s songs into their playlist. Kudos to them! If only Ingstad would bring back The Tractor, whether via AM or FM. Now 980 is ESPN Deportes and even with our high Hispanic population, I doubt many people are listening.

Well, there apparently are a few rock stations called the Bear -- at least two I know of that are quite good. I'm guessing there are probably more throughout the country.

The Bull is a decent moniker. Short and catchy. I wish the station well. I just don't listen to country very much.

KJRB 790 Spokane switched from News/Talk to a Classic Rock format via a translator "94.1 The Bear" not long ago. Heavy on the Godsmack and Foo Fighters, less so on The Who and Led Zeppelin.

But really, do we need anymore copycat brands? As if average listeners are still chained to local terrestrial radio and haven't seen all the Bull/Bear/Wolf/Fox, etc. stations with similar logos in other places on their TuneIn or iHeart apps and wondered "WTF?"

On the infinite dial, it's better to be original. And nothing beats a good strong set of call letters.
