98.9 Sign off on Friday

Well, at least there'll be a carrier there! ;)

Was UT going to make any changes to the signal? Or did it just buy the license and transmitter/equipment as is, where is?

THE OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE FROM KUT

At 2 p.m. CST today, KUT assumed the 98.9 FM broadcast with the voice of Susan Castle and Elvis Presley rendition of “Here Comes Santa Claus.”

-----

AUSTIN, Texas – Nov. 30, 2012— KUT 90.5, a full-time news and information broadcast service, and KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, will launch on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.

The University of Texas at Austin, on behalf of KUT, completed its purchase of KXBT 98.9 today. The purchase was approved by The University of Texas Board of Regents in August.

Between now and the Jan. 2 launch of the new formats, KXBT 98.9 will broadcast a KUT-curated, Austin-centric holiday mix of music, while KUT 90.5 will continue to air a combination of music, news and information programming.

I think they need to put KITY in Llano on an Austin frequency like they did once before it's a pretty good oldies station

But where? 96.3 is the only station that translates a "flanker".

102.7 does well
99.7 ditto
103.1 well that's Jammin.
97.1 has a loyal following in the Spanish speaking community.
106.3, a big maybe. I would place my chips on 96.3 but that signal is so weak I need a HD Radio to receive 96.3 which defeats the purpose since it is already relaying KKMJ HD-3.

I am hoping either KGSR or KVET 98.1 Flips to Classic Hits/Oldies. I am thinking of starting a petition to do so.

Bo and Andi stated that they will stay in Austin.

My guess is Andi will be with KOKE-FM, and Bo?

Now Nassour can listen to KONO and Wildav can listen to cassettes. The other 3 listeners of 98.9 will find a new home.

I got the final CD's already made 10 of them! All of Friday from 6 AM to 2:03 PM. On the last day, I fired up my Pioneer Standalone Compact Disc Recorder, and started burning the day away! I had to leave for work around 12:45 so it set the last disc on Autopilot! Captured 3:41 of Elvis Most Wonderful Time of The Year song along with KXBT's KUT sign on!

Got that Alien commercial, several times! Just for Marianne on their facebook page!!! People lover people lover we are from exceed... using a shared facebook account under Jose Gomez.

Andi McKay just made this announcement.
She said she will be on the air tomorrowat 10:00 am but she said she dose not know how long she will be able to be on the air.
She said, "That depends on what time we hand over the keys of the station over to the fine folks over at the University of Texas".

I second that.

That is what I also heard. I hope they play "Ballad for A Girl in Buchannon" by Chicago.

It's long and jazzy!
Clocks in at around 13 minutes!

I wish they did play it. I called Bo around 6:30 ish this morning, and requested it. He said he couldn't make any promises. However they did play the long version of Papa Was A Rolling Stone. I tried to call back about 1:40 pm and asked Andi to use the jingle "Taking our time and doing it right, another extended version of a classic, Only on Austin's Greatest Hits" along with playing the extended version of the Guess Who "No Time"

Yeah that's a problem last time I was out in the Cedar Park area you could pick up the 106.3 signal of KITY don't know if they still are on that frequency or not though.

IIRC-- When they were on in Austin they owned the translator. I believe that is no longer the case.

What about 106.5? 95.1? They're both translators, and I didn't expect 95.1 to actually come back with the same format (women's Spanish talk) a few months ago.

Also, anyone have an aircheck of KUTX's flip to Christmas?

The Austin frequency was 102.7 K279AX. That changed when it simulcasted KOKE AM.

106.1 COL is Burnet. They are on that frequency, not 106.3
I wished they would stream!

You asked the right person! PM me with your Address and I will send a copy to you! The CD contains 1 track @ 80:00 minutes.

3:42 seconds contains KUTX's Christmas music.

Ironically at 12:51 AM Jammin 103.1 is playing Donna Summer's Last Dance the same time it usually clocks in on Saturday nights on now defunct Austin's Greatest Hits from the Iron Catcus North!

Is the 95.1 translator somehow related to the one on 97.1?
95.1's Radio Mujer and 97.1's Fiesta Mexicana are both concepts of Promomedios in Guadalajara.
That sounds like more than a coincidence that two translators in Austin would choose the same Mexican vendor.

There may be some commonality between the two of them. Per FCC documents, the director of the party that tried to buy 97.1 from Bumpous is also the CE of the company that owns 95.1. However, last I heard, the plans for 95.1 were still for it to relay KZNX eventually.

She went on to say she likes Austin and wants to stay in Austin. She will be looking to get a gig at another station in town. So, stay tuned as they say.

She might as well jump to KDRP.

RT @radioinsight: 98.9 KUTX Austin has shifted from Christmas Music to a jockless preview of its new AAA format coming on January 2.
