This is how neutered the station I grew up with has become...the front page of 98rock.com has the word "Shocking" right about the Lex and Terry logo...to the left is a graphic of the actual shocker gesture with a "censored" banner over it. Clear Channel has really squeezed rock radio into a bland broth of what it used to be.
Sometimes I wish Janet Jackson would've just kept her nipple hidden.
On another note, Scotty there are plenty of 90s bands that would sound just fine following an 80s tune. Pearl Jam, Candlebox, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins (up until 1979) etc. all have roots in the late 80s rock scene. But I've listened to a lot of what you've posted in your Top 20s, and most of it doesn't have any legs, other than a specialty show. Of course I moved on from the over usage of distortion and 7-string guitars when I discovered something called melody.

Maybe 1-2 times a day unless its a new song...like Candlebox new song "Stand" will get about 6 spins a day. Again the top 30 songs are not my personal favorite list, but songs I would play cause they are in other markets doing well including ours. Just want to mention a couple good stations that play alot of Classic Hard Rock with New Rock.....
WHQG out of Milwaukee plays some New Rock in their top 20 but alot of bands from not only the 90s but alot of Hairbands.... they have been running a 5.2 share avg over the past year and latest was a 5.8.... no real great morning show... just good music. Company owned Saga corp.

MDs uses soundscan to format their playlists? I know of soundscan and they/inform Billboard of the markets sales,etc but I never thought that works for a stations playlist.
I would rather keep my music playlist on what is current and play new music and play classics on what is requested the most. On soundscan, people in your market wont be picking up artists CDs,DVDS, etc if your not playing that music.....and if your not playing that music...soundscan will show its almost nonexisant.
So to say you wont play a rock band like "Airbourne" (just a example), they have/had 2 songs in the top 20 nationally, but your market wont play it on regular rotation cause Soundscan shows little if any sales in your market just dont make sense. It wont be sold in your market cause your not playing that band/song...DUH! If you play the band/song, people will catch on.
Rock music revenue is down, we all agree with that, I feel its cause of 3 main problems. 1 there are more outlets to listen to music and dL it on the internet instead of buying it. And 2nd, There are too many bands out there on too many record labels fighting for revenue that are signed. Instead of having 80 rock artists with singles out, maybe cut it back 25% so there is less to choose from. Finally I feel RockRadio needs to go 1 direction in music. If its active rock, put the 90s grunge scene underground with the hairbands and off the radio. If its Alternative or grunge, then do away with the active rock scene. Active Rock is running 3.6 compared to Alternative 2.4 nationally.. but I dont see them getting rid of 1 or the other.

I would love to see the revenue +/- of any radio station... (not just 98rock). Revenue at radio stations in general are on a decline recently due to a few good reasons. I'm wondering on a seperate issue if 98rock is meeting their expectations. Ratings are horrible, and I will keep posting these weekly countdowns until 98rock makes a change in Music and PD. Lex and Terry will probably stay for awhile, but shows are needed and updated music playlist to more current music (instead of 4-6months old songs)..

Listen Scott with all due respect why don't you come sown to the station so I can really explain this as simply as possible. I've tried when you reached out via myspace but I may as well be talking to my 4 year old cause you just don't want to listen. A 2.9 12+ does not mean mean anything brother. Any programmer on here will tell you that when you are drilling your demo which we are doing well right now. Especially in the newest trend in the month of July. I love your passion but seriously.....

I love you Big Rig...LOL Seriously, I think Big Rig is the best DJ on 98Rock and better than alot of DJs everywhere!, but Ronnie, your right, but,Give give the people what they want,More New Rock Music Per Hour- (for a active rock station) instead of the same crap songs that are overplayed nonstop, get out of the grunge scene (like the rest of the country has) and play some tunes now and then that you dont hear anymore that was big back in the early days of 98rock, hairbands-metal-whatever. There are sooo many Rock bands that are on the top 30 list above that are doing well nationally that aren't being play by 98rock. We dont want to hear the excuses of it not doing well here now or in the past cause its not Pushed Here!. You said to me on myspace that Mayhem was a bad turnout here. Well it was not only a workday (tuesday) but also most dont know bands like Dragonforce, Blacktide,Airbourne cause 98Rock dont play them, but at the same time, are well known nationally cause they are on regular rotation in alot of markets. Anyways I still love ya Big Rig ( not in a gay way..lol)
People in Tampa Bay Need a New Pure Hit Rock Station, Playing more New Active Rock Per Hour, Playing a few Hardrock Classics that you dont hear anymore(80s-early90s) and Great Shows that let the DJs get the listeners involved.

Scott... let the topic die man. Seriously. Posting the latest "loud rock" chart on a radio message board like this isn't gonna change things. Face it... whatever you think of 98 Rock or even what Big Rig says isn't gonna satisfy you. Do yourself a favor... get an XM or Sirius receiver and fire up some Liquid Metal or Octane. You like that music and that's cool... but banging the message board with the latest charts isn't gonna change the format direction of 97.9.
And as a side note to Big Rig... I admire your passion and respect your work... and as far as ratings go the last few years, I really feel sorry for you and the guys at WXTB. But face the facts man... it aint what it used to be and things are not getting better fast or enough. You're one of the good guys. And as bright of a future you might paint here in this thread, we all know it's not gonna get much better. Here's hoping you find a good place to continue your work or at least a place somewhere in the cluster to use your skills.

that's what I love about this board...the NEGATIVE . The old saying goes.."if you think you're dead..you are". I love the fact everyone keeps counting us out. We had the chance to turd out this last trend. We did not and put in double digit numbers 18-34 and we were way up 25-54 for the month. When we roll off that turd from May I think things will look a lot different on the 19th of September ;-). We are a great radio station that regardless of what a few might think is still pounding @ the rock and still will.
However I know all of the haters here will continue to pound and bitch about us so knock yourselves out LOL. It's when you talk of us no more I will worry......well not really :-*

And yeah 98rock was still great in the grunge era cause that music was in..., well Active Rock is in now and its hardly played, alot of local listeners dont know alot of the bands that are being played to death nationwide cause it's not pushed here, and listen up and tell your MD/PD this, YOU DONT BEAT 97X BY PLAYING THEIR ALTERNATIVE MUSIC, YOU BEAT THEM WITH PLAYING MORE 'NEW ROCK PER HOUR' OF A 'ACTIVE ROCK FORMAT' afterall 97x ratings are a meager .1-.2 only ahead of you guys @ 98Rock. Active Rock and Metal is in today, And listen up, ratings do count more than what you say.
