987 PLAYLIST CHANGES

I have noticed a shift in the KYSR playlist over the course of the past few weeks and I was curious as to if I'm the only one who noticed. I noticed an increase in gold from the 90s and also the inclusion of more Hot AC songs like Jason Mraz "I'm Yours" and a few songs by the Fray.

Does this signal a shift towards a more alternative lite focus or simply responding to listener and market demands? I thought that 987 was starting to make some headway against KROQ, not only ratings wise, but in breaking new music and in staying true to the alternative charts.

MAybe they did a music test and implemented it?

Is there a "Fresh" format in your market yet? There is here now. It used to be a Classic rock and Alternative mix. Yesterday CBS put our once legendary WHFS on Fresh FM's HD-2 channel. Hope you have better luck than Baltimore/DC.

Fresh is not a format, it is just a brand for bright or hot AC. LA has a localized hot AC, My FM, KBIG. Same conceept, different execution because it is in a very different market.

They're top songs on yes.com seem consistent with before... maybe the shift you're hearing is in the cycling of gold in and out of the playlist or a broadening of it. Haven't been able to listen as much lately so I can't say first hand.

98-7 is losing in the quality of its music by the way. It doesn't seem like they're doing anything different from KROQ except for adding more Modern AC tracks. They have a pretty good New Music Show, but this Sunday, they played a song from Mitchel Musso (The Co-Star of Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana) which might start telling me something about what direction the station's starting to go.

Is this Alternative?

My tips for 98-7
-Be more like sister station KTCL in Denver
(Which is probably never going to happen because KTCL actually plays local artists during the mainstream hours)
-Less commercials
I swear everytime I tune in, there's a commercial on the air
