Chuck said:Actually, "Spanglish" is not a bad idea. It is a good way to pick up a second language, whether you are Hispanic or Anglo. It looks like we will all be speaking it sooner or later, so why not jump in now?

I strongly disagree with your last quote.

Last I checked, there are not dozens of Russian, French, or Welsh immigrants coming into Texas everyday. Like it or not, Texas will be majority Hispanic sometime between 2020 and 2030. Right now, Texas is about 37% Hispanic, and Jeb Bush's son recently said in a national interview that he believes Texas will be majority Hispanic in as little as 6 years.
I don't think that anyone has mandated that you learn a second language. We are just discussing a radio station flipping to a Spanish language format.
willdav713 said:But you do realize in San Antonio the market is over 50 percent Hispanic, and English is dominant in that city.
Of course they have quite a handful of Spanish language stations in that city, but not as many as Houston. I am surprised that Houston doesn't have an FM station broadcasting an Asian format of some sort.
It is from his quote that "we will all be speaking it sooner or later" is why I made such remark. I think of the Vietnamese, South Koreans, and Chinese that immigrated into this Country who are very hard workers, and business people who made strides in adopting the English language. Should those people have to go back an learn Spanish while English alone should suffice?
I am sure I will find people who will disagree with me, but it is the English language that makes us equal and gives us all a fair chance.
I understand that it is the radio business, and if said owner wants to take such a risk on their station, whom am I to interfere? I they succeed with the new format, that's great. But if they fail, I do not as a taxpayer want to bail them out like we did with the banks and Fannie and Freddie Mac.
