Station will be called 99.9 The Fan. Domain has been reserved and links to wral.com right now. TV ad campaign starts middle of this month. New PD is in place from Dallas but has little to work with. Has no clue how to juggle different college fan bases and keeps talking about the Hurricanes and Panthers. CBC radio suits are publicly stating they are happy to be relieved of the responsibility but privately know they blew it with the country format. Now the network will try to make it work with Grandpa Goodman's new radio toy. Prediction: station is sold in 2009.
1090's been non-sports since last fall or early winter.
But still, three sports stations seems to be diluting water there.
Maybe 99.9 could do some talk, some news, some sports talk, and some sports?
Or is that too diluted too?
I don't understand why they didn't just flip the thing instead of drawing it out over such a long period of time? Am I missing something here? What have they been waiting on?
They ran the LSU-Va Tech game last night and the three times I heard the announcers broke for a station ID, there was nothing forthcoming on their end, just silence.
OK, the website's down ("under construction"), and the station's running jockless (music and voiceovers only). You can still access the stream through The Stream Center, but I can sense the end is coming soon. Can someone capture the flip when it does happen and post the link here? I wonder what they'll stunt with...?
A few minutes ago, they went from Joe Walsh to Stevie Nicks, and the voiceover in between called it a "radio premiere" and referred to the station as simply "99.9." And I can't pull up the stream online now, not even through The Stream Center. Stay tuned...
