990 AM Auction

Anyone know when 990 is scheduled to be auctioned?
I wonder what 990 and sister 700 (CP) will go for.
Know of anyone interested in bidding?
And what would you do with a couple of low powered AM's?

What's on 990 now?

Convert them to high-power walkie talkies?

Seriously, does 990 have any local programming now, and if so, what is it?

Any morning show left?

I assume the website is out of date.

Yes the website is very out of date...Mike Fisher is still doing his show and I believe so are Chevis and Joe...other than that all FOX SPORTS...The bank Building is trying to get them evicted throught the courts but 990 (The WATCH) is contending that in order to sell the stations and everyone receive their money they must remain in their space. Good chance none of us will ever see any of the back pay that we are due, 6, 8, and even 10 weeks, of no pay depending how long you stuck it out....The stations could go for as much as 12 million and as low as 8 million...But it's like baseball cards, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it....
Edited by promovet on 08/10/05 01:27 PM.

Speaking of web sites... for what it's worth, cafe990.com is registered through Septempber 2007. The owner is listed as Scott Savage...
______________

Curious to know if they are willing to sell off some equipment that they have as well-- some of the remote boards and such-- wondering if that could be picked up at the auction or is it strictly the Freq.and the property that is being auctioned off--

Just a thought

Everything is property of the bankruptcy court and I believe it is just the requencies and license being auctioned but I guess they could work the equipment into any deal that is reached

Unless the FCC's rules have changed, they need to include at least some equipment. and/or property with the license when they sell it. Historically, the FCC has frowned on the sale of "bare" licenses without any sort of accompanying physical assets.

Although perhaps the dergulation of the nineties eliminated that particular rule...

A little bit of added info...Chevis and Joe are no longer on the station...and as far as Fisher; he seems to never be there. It seems that he is splitting time with his producer, Larry...or it was for about 2 1/2 weeks in July. There are currently 3 board ops working for the station, and from what I have been told, they are still not being paid on a regular basis (but they are the only ones getting paid at all). According to the bankruptcy paperwork, the selling of the two frequencies will start at a minimum bid of 10MIL cash....and anyone with an eBay account is welcome to open. BUT, in the 10 MIL, that is supposed to include towers and a transmitter at the 700 site...but from what I am being told, there is nothing there but grass and dirt. I am one of those that stuck it out until 2 days before bankruptcy was filed...so I am about as optimistic as the previous poster.

As for the question about equipment up for sale...

Re: Missing Equipment

There are a number of pieces of equipment missing from our studios, offices, and tower site. The equipment is an asset of the bankruptcy estate and needs to be accounted for before the Court. Our attorney has suggested we provide a two (2) week amnesty period, with no questions asked, for the equipment to be returned to our offices. If you have the equipment in your possession, please return it. If you know the whereabouts of the equipment or have knowledge of who may have taken it, please let us know. A partial list of the missing equipment includes:

Mic Processors

Headsets

Speakers

Digital Camera

Cisco Telephones

Tower Site Testing Equipment

Portable Recorder

Thermal Labeling System

Mics & Mic Mounts

Equipment for remotes

After the 2 week period ending Friday, July 22nd, police reports will be filed and remedies will be sought with local authorities as well as in Federal Bankruptcy Court, including potential depositions and testimonies under oath.

This was an e-mail to many of former staff members thru personal e-mail accounts, not station e-mail accounts that were never disclosed to any other 990 staff.

So, what's gonna happen to FC Dallas after 990 falls? Where else will they go. According to the press release, they signed a 3 year deal...wonder if they're dying to get out of it. Kind of like North Dallas Bank. Apparently, they are now getting the money that they are owed as well...but don't want anything to do with Dave Schum (insert cheap shot here.)
______________

Schum ... what do you think about him?

What is your opinion of Schum, and what did you do there?

It is beyond me why people would have lined up to work there after his track record.

Did they think he had changed?

I was the Promotions Director and I originally thougth schum was a good guy...Although I did not do any research on his previous venture in radio and that is my fault...I really don't think he intentionally tried to screw anybody but things just got out of hand...way out of hand...I think people want to think people change and everyone did want the best for that station..it did have a little momemtum before McCarthy left. We all just have to move on and learn from our mistakes as well as others and just make the best of them. Things happen for a reason and I know that I am in a better place now and out of the radio biz and writing TV and radio commercials for an ad agency here in Dallas...

Re: Schum ... what do you think about him?

I don't have an opinion of Schum (in spite of a slander suit). That's about all I will say except I know of instances where I was lied straight to my face by Schum. I believe that the "gross mismanagement" quoted in the Dallas Business Journal could be a lot of what was wrong with 990 trilogy. I will never work for Dave Schum again because I believe that, due to his track record, he is not capable of running a successful radio station. That is my official opinion of Mr. Schum. If ya want an unofficial opinion, I'm easy to access.

The reason a lot of people that worked for Schum after the cafe incident was the fact that he lasted for more than 3 days and had some "big name talent." If you noticed, the only real radio people that were on the station from the beginning were the hosts and the producers. The engineer did not have a good reputation, none of the board ops had any live, on-air experience, and the sales staff seemed to be filled with has beens or people whose sales experience highlights included Target and Just for Feet. They had Ed Wodka (formerly of The Edge fame) Dave Marcum, and Jerry Overton. Those were the only people (outside of on-air talent or producers) with any radio experience, and only one had an inside roll in the Dallas market. It took 990 almost six months to get staff with radio experience (i.e., Doc Bryce, sales staff members, Mike Elmore-an engineer that knew what he was doing, and board ops that had real radio experience.) It didn't happen all at once...radio people started to trickle in with promises of decent paychecks and benefits. (That’s what got me in there).

For the most part, the staff was being told that we were operating in the black and that things were looking up. Meanwhile, paychecks stopped coming in around the one-year mark, weeks after a meeting declared 990 "profitable." Not one time were we lead to believe that 990 was in any financial trouble. No warnings...nothing...blindsided after being lied to for weeks.

Dave Schum has ruing many people's lives...including mine. I nearly lost my home, and have lost my car because of Dave Schum's "gross mismanagement." I am it that I am bitter.

Thank you promovet...best of luck to you as well.

I feel thankful that my name has been left out of all of the posts on 990...I did a ton of work for them and as much station promotion as I cuold muster with no budget...and I did decure some nice giveaways among other things that helped enhance what little of that station there was!!

You have sued him or he has sued you?

Re: Schum ... what do you think about him?

I have no issue with you...and yes, I do know who you are...and who I am makes no difference...I go very much under the radar. The only persons I take issue with are the people in management that KNEW this was going on...

As far as lawsuits, none have been filed and there are no intentions to file (on my behalf). I just want to head any off at the pass so I do not have to deal with anything more regarding The Watch, ltd.
______________
