990am not paying jocks

If the on-the-air talent is not getting paid, and they are still working there, they are more pathetic than the management.

I resent that! There were many of us working there back in the days of KFCD and didn't get paid. I was one of them. We didn't work with out pay cause we were pathetic. We worked without pay cause we loved what we did, and we all wanted to see the station make it. I don't hear anyone bashing on Southwest Airline Employees when they took part of their own pay and put it back in to the fuel tanks of the plains to help their company survive post 9/11. Then again, it also helped that they got paid too, but that's not the point.

We all stood there on baited breath, hoping the Schum was right and funding would come through. All we had to do was wait it out, and we would all be high-fiving one another and we'd all be back in business.

We didn't work without pay cause we're pathetic. We worked without pay for the same reason we all worked without pay when we where first introduced to the world of radio as newbies. We were just doing what we loved.

Doc,

I like your spirit! That's the right attitude to maintain, when you are doing something you love to do. It may not always work out the way you'd like, but you hung in there and gave it a chance. Very commendable.

Well said. If you love this business, sometimes you have to gamble even when the odds are against you. "Better to have loved and lost".

"Pathetic" is too strong of a term. College radio for instance is mostly "volunteer"work, few paid positions and not that great of pay. I knew one guy who was paid 20 hours a week, and worked literally 50,because he believed in the station. He made it sound so good the commercial stations snatched up a lot of students because they were "professional' sounding.
990 is screwed up due to the previous owner and the current person leasing it. The staff is still horning in their skills as best as they can,and hope that with that added experience someone else will notice and actually pay them for their skills. You have scum like Tom using them for their own interests regreatably. They along with CONsultants give radio a bad name.

Update: The payroll checks aren't bouncing because a stop payment is issued first. I think the facts speak for themselves about the class of radio station and the type of person that is running it.

Employees need to file a complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission to get back wages. They in turn will notify the employer that back wages are due and will enforce payment of earned wages. Second they will notify the US Dept. of Labor, due to violation of Federal employment acts, etc. This in turn would be passed on as well to the FCC for violations of agreement, etc. IRS can get involved as well. If I were Tom, I would pay up,get out, sign off on that lousy excuse for a morning show, quit visiting Dr. Pepper Ballpark during The Rough Rider Games and give false represention as the owner/PD of 990, develop a conscience and make good to those who have toiled for you.

Earlier in this thread, we heard this news:

Top Cat said:
KFCD now belongs to Principal Broadcasting out of New York. That company is wholly-owned by Mercury Capital Partners..........a super-solid group. They broker time on all of their Principal stations.

Again I'll ask the question: the sale may have been announced and the takeover plans may have been laid out, but is it a done deal? Before anyone answers, take a look at this from the FCC:

Public Notice Comment
BAL-20070216ABA Voluntary Assignment of License
From: BERNARD DALLAS LLC
To: PRINCIPLE BROADCASTING NETWORK - DALLAS LLC
Form 314
Petition to Deny filed on 3/29/2007.
Informal Objection filed on 5/1/2007

If it's true that the people at KFCD still aren't getting paid, it sounds like Bernard Dallas LLC is still the owner. So if anyone can provide any record of the FCC's dismissal of the Petition to Deny and the informal objection to the sale, as well as any evidence of a consummation of the sale, let's hear it.
