99X GIG!

RandomGuy6 said:
Hell, I applied for the morning sports gig back in February when it came "open," and my rejection letter just came in the mail last week!

Hah! Me too. Speedy deliver, courtesy of 99X!

"For me, I think I'm totally rad" "If he's mean to me, then I'll be like dude you're totally being mean and there's no need for that." "I'll totally be like "hey man, you're being really cool through this whole thing". "4 years experience talking poopy whispers in the house.

Coming Soon To A Market Near You,

StickyIcky"

Golly Gee Icky, you sound like a swell guy, but jeepers, using words like "totally rad" and "dude" and "hey man", I don't know. You better watch your language! I'm not even going to discuss the use of the "P" word. Don't make me get out a bar of soap.

I AM totally rad Mr. Berlin. I'm cool too. Really kewl!

Why would you say they wouldn't even hear it? Maybe they have, maybe they haven't. But I believe they would at some point. My material rocked, and I can't see why they would pass it over. 8)

I'm getting a headache. I feel like I'm playing an MMORPG with an 11 year old.

What's so funny? 4 years is a decent amount of time. People accomplish a lot in 4 years. Who's to say that I'm not polished enough to do market 10. It's not like that market stands the radio world on it's ear. Not to mention, if you laughed at my last post, then I can work anywhere that you get a diary. I'm a funny guy. ;D

StickyIcky

Im sorry Sticky i wish you the best but:

A: Four years at one station, essentially your first gig is not an awful lot of time.

B. If you actually had learned a lot you would have learned at least not to show your hand like you have. NOt to come onto this board and ask "who is getting the job and is it me"?

C. Then again it's arrogant little snot nosed punks that go far in this industry, those with actual experience tend to become complacent and just stay where they are. Then again arrogant is one thing, unrealistic is another. You're not being too realistic. IF I were you, with your vast four years experience under your belt, I would be ELATED if I could get a critique of my package from someone like Leslie but dont expect a gig, or even an interview.

To quote the Beastie Boys " ya drippy nosed knuclehead your wet behind the ears..."

Good luck to you son, here endedth the lesson.

PS I find it hard to believe that this DOOOOD is serious, anyone who says with a straight face " Im rad..." Check that: No one says that, no one, why? becuase it sounds retarded. As for the argument that radio is dying for talent especially alternative stations? False: IVe been hearing that my entire career, and now that alternative stations are dropping like flies with the format in crisis, companiesw are not shelling out big duckets to their jocks. In fact MUSIC JOCKS as a whole are not making huge money anymore, we all know that, it's going to the talk guys becuase they're the "Raddest" ::)

Yeah, but I'm rad enough to start a thread about nothing and get over 2200 views and plenty of replies. Imagine if I was actually talking to listeners about something more exciting. Fish in a barrel. But everyone else here has the answers. Me and my 4 years will see anyone who matters soon! ;)

Man, I wish I were totally rad. That would be totally tubular to be totally rad... ;D

THe lesson!

Yes you did start a thread about nothing, and you got 2200 replies .......from people telling you how dumb you sounded. SO by that logic, based on your audiences response here, yeah if you were actually talking to listeners about something more exciting they will hate you too, espeically a station like 99x, which if i were to sum it up in a word, it would not be "RAD" kid. ANd if you're complaining that "everyone else here has the answers" remember this: You came here looking for answers, it wasnt like people sought you out and tried to crush your dream, you posted asking about how the interviews were going, and then proceeded to state that you were pretty certain that you would get the gig. So you're bummed that you put yourself out there with the assumption that people would say "Yeah bro go for it" and when they hit you back with the harsh reality, then you got defensive like it's THEIR fault?.

Here's the best advice ANYONE will ever give you and I mean this from the heart: Confidence is great you'll need it, but keep it to yourself because you're in a world of people without it, or without the amount of it that you have. IM talking about working professionals in major markets that can be as insecure as high school boys on prom night, why? who the F knows why!. So to them you just come off as an egomanic and dumb, Im not trying to diss Im trying to be as honest with you as I can be. Learn to play your cards close to the vest, that means be on the DL with what you think, especially about yourself!. It's like you have the biggest secret in the world, bigger than the Da vinci code. That secret? " I am the bomb, yo".........dont ever tell anyone the secret, IF it turns out to be true, the world will find out on their own, annd its always more legit when others tell YOU that you're the man, its never legit when You're the one doing the telling. Stay humble no matter what they say about you be it good, or be it bad, that is the key. What are my qualifications to dispense such advice? 15 years on air in Boston from the time it was market number 7 on down, mornings in a medium market, and currently working on air in New York, market number 1.

On the real though: Four years really is NOT much time BUT I hope it's enough to at least get you an interview, there you can sell yourself. HOWEVER do yourself a favor, dont hit them with the 'Im rad" vibe because that tells them as it's told everyone here "this kid is a pain in the arse and he doesnt even HAVE the gig yet, NEXT". EIther way I hope you'll take this in the spirit in which it is intended, not to flame you but to give you the real deal, tough love I guess.

In closing let me quote the great Pimp turned preacher, the Bishop Don "Magic" Juan

" IT aint easy man, you see me ridin'.... snakeskin to da floor, rings on fingers and watches on arms, you gonna have to go through some THANGS before you get to this static baby,......see ya at the TOP"

Here endeth the lesson, as you were. 8)

I understand that after 10 years apart, Bailey and the Fat Guy are reuniting to take over the Atlanta airwaves. Look for an announcement soon.

Nice thread! This person has NO clue. It seems this job has been open for some time. Sorry to say, 4 years will probably not land you this job. It's probably already filled right? Who's doing mornings for them now?

I've been wondering what happened to StickyIcky and wondered if he got the job.

I haven't posted since the switchover to the new format but have been watching the boards.

Who cares if this person has no clue. With the "quality" of Atlanta radio, a person with four years experience could probably do better than half the people in the market.
