_______ Still Sounds Good On The Radio

--- and the only reason I remember the Flash in the Pan cut is from doing backsells/frontsells when I did AOR back then ... we always joked about Sniff and the Tears and Flash in the Pan.... too bad A-Ha hadn't come around yet!

I remember Flash and the Pan from "Hey St. Peter" in 1979.

Wait a minute...this belongs on the Stiffs thread!

For some reason Flash & The Pan reminded me of Godley & creme's "Cry" which I don't hear anywhere except on my TT but I think it would still sound good on the radio. The video of this song still looks good but not as amazing as it once did

but in 1985 it was truly mind blowing.

Agreed that this was an excellent video back in the day. Remember when MTV used to show videos when it stood for MUSIC television? ;)

Heard "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel today, and reflexively reached over to crank it up. Still sounds great, and doesn't seem to get nearly enough airplay in WNY.

You might want to check out Cool TV Channel 31.2. A lot of old videos on. The go to channel during commercials on other channels.

OK, one more...

Chuck E.'s In Love - Rikki Lee Jones

I dug the whole album. I'm sure that the Stiffs thread could be expanded by her later efforts (despite being the darling of Rolling Stone Magazine), but that may say more about the American public than her ability to make interesting music.

Heard this on a Canadian FM late last night while driving home from the Finger Lakes: "Talking In Your Sleep" by Detroit's Romantics. It's a Big 80s song that should be a good fit for Classic Hits stations that need to add compatible 80s songs in their libraries. Amazingly well-produced although not over-done, and with a great hook.

I agree with what Jim said, I always liked "Talking In Your Sleep". Interestingly, (at least to me) the Romantics song that gets the most airplay- "What I Like About You"- never hit the top 40. I don't think it qualifies for "Stiff-dom" as it came before "Talking In Your Sleep" and the "Stiffs Police" would pull me over for sure if I tried to post that! :D

Ya gotta admit... "talking in your sleep" was a great intro to talk up.... one of my co-workers at KUDO-FM always talked it up "Chattin' While You're Nappin...."

....Heard this morning watching the news, the tune played for the astronauts on the Space Shuttle Atlantis for their morning wake-up call, a tune that peaked at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100 from Out of the Blue 1977:

The Electric Light Orchestra: "Mr. Blue Sky"

I used it for the soundtrack for a video I made of Taste of Buffalo 2007:

I hadn't heard "You Belong To The City" by Glen Frey in years but heard it the other day on a AT40- the Eighties show.

Oh wow... i used to knock out some of these on WBUF, in one of its 32 formats: Great thread!

Rock: Jammin Me by Tom Petty/Heartbreakers
R&B/Hip Hop: All Night Long, Puff Daddy
'Soft Rock': Running with the Night, Lionel Ritchie (Thank video games like Grand Theft Auto for some Fabulous music choices)

Talking in your sleep, I Heard in a WalGreens lol

We Built This City? DEAR GOD NO!

Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship had MANY great songs, then they became Starship and three hits in a row were AWFUL! (Though their last 2 It's Not Over Til Its Over and It's Not Enough) were good.

I'm guessing anyone who was of age and listened to the S.F. Rock sound probably likes that song because it refers to one of the most famous S.F. bands. IMHO Starship wasn't as good as Airplane but the difference is likely to be an individual thing. After all, it was a hit. Somebody must have liked it besides me.

One of my favorites on the radio is Swingtown by Steve Miller. Always sounds nice and crisp...

Me too. What a memory tune for me. Never forget double dating in my Triumph (2 seater) driving up A1A in Palm Beach listening to it on WSHE - SHE'S ONLY ROCK & ROLL! Ah, the memories of days past.

Ah, another suffering Triumph owner. I owned '63 TR3B, '71 TR6 and '74 TR6 before I got too fat to squeeze in and out of those little fun machines.
