I love these guys that call themselves 'program directors' of turnkey syndicated talk outlets
I checked out the website for 1280 talk. ALL SYNDICATED TALKERS. Ingraham, Snow, Doyle,Medved,Humphries,Bennett,Prager constitute thier 'staff'.
So, Jon, I guess your day is spent on the phone with these hosts telling them how to do radio the 'right way', huh? Guiding the talent to best represent your audience and helping the ad sales with regular local appearances?
I onced worked for a PD of a station similar to this, but even he was smart enough to get his own show on the air somewhere in the lineup. You mean you don't even have your own show on the station you are the PD for?
At least WGST has a 2 local live am shows, one pm drive show, and the Braves shows, during the weekday. And it's full of 'dollar a holler' shows on the weekends, as well as local live talk shows ( Mad Pundit Radio, when the Braves are dark ).
So what consitutes your duties as PD? Checking the radio boards, challenging critics, and making sure the SAT feed comes down right?
At least Eric Von Hasselhoff has more personality and some proven success ( years ago ). Next time the Kimmer's taking his supertrike to the Mustang Ranch, please put on local hosts instead of this gasbag, even Pete and Wayne were more enetertaining then this gasbag.

I used to like it when Kimmer went on vacation because you never knew who'd be on in his place, but usually one of the regular suspects..Pete and Wayne, Gene Hensler, even Keith used to sub for him. Voices you were familiar with, etc...
The milquetoast 'out of town guys' I've heard lately blow chunx. The primary election in the mix and were talking about North Korea and Cindy Sheehan's fast? puh-leeze.

We have just begin the work at this station. I started 4 months ago. We named it officially 2 months ago, settled a few marketing issues a month ago, and are nearly finished with the travail of fashioning RCS Master Control into a competent operating system.
Push us....Criticize us....Point out our flaws....But know that the people working at this small, tough, hard-working broadcasting company are true radio pros, working to take out the biggest monoliths in media.
Please keep that in mind, huh?

I'm not defensive. I'm not thin-skinned. I'm a long-term successful student of radio. Here's just a bit of what I've learned:
During consolidation, radio programming got dealt out of the game. We continue being dealt out of the game because we on-air professionals, keep crapping on each other instead of working together to get our careers back. I show up for the first time on WGST, and you guys decide I blow. How? If you were that good at picking out good talent from bad, you'd all be corporate PD's working at #1 stations.
Guru, the latest of your non-stop litany of idiotic statements is: "Maybe if you spent less time here......your station web site would be updated?"
How about this: "Maybe if you had a clue about what was actually needed to build a brand new talk station, (like not rushing something that was not ready onto the web to satisfy a small, cynical mob of malcontents) you wouldn't have to anonymously take shots at those who do, from the cheap seats?" (Besides, I type about 60 WPM....This letter has taken about 2 minutes so far....you hunt and peck guys see life through such a limited lens.)
Wait....You did say something that was valid....that I was reacting to "nincompoops" on this board. Brother you sure got that one right. But I'm thinking that someone other than your "lord of the flies" sycophants will read this and say; "Wait a minute....Let's not continue to make ourselves look like idiots who don't deserve a chance to make a decent income."

As far as I know, Kimmer will be Atlanta's next #1 PM Drive radio personality, and if I can help HIM get there by doing a last-minute, emergency holiday fill-in, I'll do it. This guy is priceless. I'm going to start looking at the Vegas/Henderson boards just to see how this clown's station is going to compete with his 'vast knowledge of radio'.
First, we get lectures on the perils of consolidation ( the old standby of fired talk hosts now acting a programmers ) then we get educated on how the industry craps on each other, all the while this guy continues to use syndicated talkers rather then local talent, including himself. Which means he is as much as the problem rather then the solution.
Methinks his protestations about wanting Kimmers slot ( especially since he's got the inside track with Bloomies) fall short. Whoever called that nailed it. Kudo's to you!

I can’t speak for the rest of the cynical mob of malcontents, but I’ve been more entertained by your posts here than your brief radio time in Atlanta. The segments I heard sounded like generic clear channel filler between commercials.

Hello Atlanta! Y'all have a beautiful city and great people!
Johnny David has been fired from every talk station in this market for many of the same reasons you are seeing here. He just doesn't know when to shut up and listen. He likes to think of himself as an expert in talk radio, but has never held a full time job here in Las Vegas, or anywhere else in talk radio.
Now with that said, JD is a good hearted guy, and if you would see it in your heart to give him a job, full time, thousands of miles away from here, we would be grateful.

KFI. Even though they carry many of the same syndicated shows, KFI news still sounds better than GST and KFI has actual real weekend shows that have a huge global following, compared to GSTs money grubbing junk that nobody cares about. Even the KFI spots are better.

As a talk show host myself, i have been listening to this market for 10 years..KDOX is a relativly new addition to the Vegas market, and to get people to tune in JD has done the right thing by bringing in well known syndicated shows, he needs to generate ad sales , so he can hire local talent to do local shows. Im sure as early as this year that may happen, but i have heard him on the air for years prior to his current job, and compared to some of the uneducated and unprofessional voices i hear, his is a welcome one..
