A Change Coming to KGO

You might be the first person in 44 pages to suggest that KGO's sports betting format competes with anyone for listening time.

The advantage to the format is its ability to make money in the absence of ratings with very little overhead. The business case for abandoning that to go back to a ratings-dependent format is gonna be a tough one.
I don’t know the half of anything about sports formats.

Does a sports betting format really not compete against a traditional sports format like KNBR-AM/FM or KGMZ-FM?

Cumulus and Audacy suggest that it "complements"---that if it draws a listener away from a KNBR, it's keeping them from going to a station owned by someone else. It's not thought to be a first choice for anyone apart from sports betting freaks.
